#410 – Origami Hello | Experiments With Card Making Etc

My initial idea for this card, inspired by this card by the amazingly talented Mayuri, was to use the same stamp set, Lawn Fawn Flutter By. In fact, I had even stamped the images, but I didn’t like them all that much.. Then, when I was actually searching for stamped for another card, I found the Altenew Orikami stamp set – perfect!

I stamped all the bird images from the stamp set in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then proceeded to color them using my Faber Castell Polychromos color pencils. My initial idea was to color only the wings of the birds, but once I did that, I found the card too plain and so I colored the rest of the bird in greyish tones, still maintaining the focus on the bird. Still unsatisfied, I added a bit of a shadow using the lightest of greys and then added dots around the wings of each bird. Happy now 🙂

Finally satisfied, I die cut the piece using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles, added a strip with the sentiment from Avery Elle Laurels, stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black, and then the ‘hello’ from WPlus9 (unfortunately a little tilted 😦 ), die cut from black card stock, directly on the card panel. I also added a mix of clear rhinestone on silver sequin for embellishment. Love the effects! 🙂

I love your card and the coloring is so pretty. I like how the color came out. I am new to colored pencils so it’s nice to see all the possibilities. I color mostly with my Copic markers. I have Japanese family in Oahu and will have to get that stamp so I can make them a card with that image. Thanks for sharing.
