#482 – Dazzler

Woodcraft Store Top 3!!

Scrapulechki - Top 3

Hello!

Am back with another card for today! Its not a ‘dazzler’ but made using Penny Black Dazzler stamp set. 🙂

Thanks

I actually tried a couple of varieties – learning from my mistakes from each of those cards, before finishing with this one. Very simple to make, but I took too much time to decide where to stamp, how much to stamp, and even what to stamp – I had actually gone for Altenew Hannah Elements before deciding on this one. 🙂

Thanks

The technique I followed for the colored stripes is, I believe, quite well known now, coming Jennifer McGuire (here and here) – and I followed the ink blending method instead of the stamping one. I used Picked Raspberry, Dried Marigold, Tattered Rose and Scattered Straw distress inks and PTI Melon Berry along with Hero Arts Unicorn white pigment ink. Embossing is using Wow! copper embossing powder. And the sentiment is from Paper Smooches Thanks die. I used an orange foam for the base, adhering it below a die cut from white card stock.

Thanks

And that’s my simple card! 🙂 Submitting this to Woodcraft Store: Clean and Simple: Ornament, CAS On Sunday #84: Sparkle and Global Design Project #38 (sketch challenge)

#481 – Thanks For Being So Wonderful

Hello!

Even though I have essentially decreased my card making time, there’s one challenge that I don’t want to miss – CASometry Challenge from Anna (Umichka). I’ve already submitted two cards (here and here) and I absolutely didn’t want to discontinue. And its an awesome challenge too – Make 5 – making 5 CAS cards using the same stamp set.

The stamp set I chose is WPlus9 Happy Mail. Its time for round 3 from the CASometry: Make 5 challenge, and here’s my submission for this time –

Thanks for being so wonderful

Since the challenge called for using one stamp set for all cards, I thought to try and use all of the images in the stamp set (except the sentiments – I usually end up using those in some card or other.. :P) For the last two takes, I had already used most of the critters in the stamp set, except for the birds. And that was the main focus time time!

Thanks for being so wonderful

I paired Penny Black Birdie Bungalows stamp with the tiny birds. The technique is kind of an inverse of what I did last time – this time, I colored most of the elements, and left just one element uncolored – two in my case – the bird houses and the flowers.

Coming back to the card – I stamped all the images and the sentiment using Memento Tuxedo Black and colored everything using my Faber Castell oil pastels, using baby oil to smudge the colors and blend them. I love the effect – I feel like they are cherry blossoms, even though I haven’t colored the flowers at all! 😉

Thanks for being so wonderful

Once I had done the coloring, I drew the line on which the birds are standing using Copic 0.3 Multi-liner and also reimposed some of the stamped images, which were obscured due to the coloring. I then die cut the panel using My Favorite Things Pinking Edge Rectangles and foam mounted it on the card base.

Also submitting my card to SSS Wednesday Challenge: Anything Goes and Just Us Girls #313: Just Add ‘B’ (I’ve added birds, branches and bird houses) –

SSS - Wednesday Challenge

On a side note, I guess many of us have a practice of testing our ideas on scraps before making the actual card? I made one just to test my idea for this card, and couldn’t help feeling that the scrap was looking better than the actual version!! (By the way, I don’t always try the entire design – I just did this time since I wanted to check the coloring using the oil pastels). To tell the truth, even after making the entire design, I trashed two cards before and changed it from a vertically aligned to a horizontally aligned card.. 😀

Thanks for being so wonderful (scrap)

#480 – Dragon Art

Hello!

Its again been a few days since I made anything card related. And since I haven’t come up with anything good, I thought of publishing some of my older works – which are not card related. Welcome to another post for the ‘etc’ of my blog!

I had made this dragon wall art – just a A3 size panel – for my sister to hang in her room. This is not an original!! I am definitely not that good!! I had downloaded this image from after searching in Google for a dragon image I can draw/paint. Here’s the source.

Dragon Wall Art

I first drew the dragon in pencil, and then colored it using Zig Brush pens. For the white – I tried a variety of things – Uniball white gel pen, Camel drawing ink white pigment paint.. probably some more – I don’t really remember. The white wasn’t just showing enough for me, and finally white acrylic paint worked. The dotted lines came different from the original – because I wasn’t paying enough attention.

And notice how you almost can’t see the beast’s horns… yeah.. again, not something I had planned. The paint just wouldn’t do its job. And I got tired and left it there. (I give up too easily :P)

Dragon Wall Art

Well, once the dragon was complete, I made the surroundings using distress ink. I half sponged, half watercolored the colors. Mostly used browns and a bit of green..you can hardly see the greens, in fact!

Dragon Wall Art

I guess its not half as bad as I thought… but then when I had finished, I had a lot of complaints with it – and I don’t remember them now at all1 😀

As a side announcement, I am thinking of reducing my blogging time. I think I have a few things that need priority. Doesn’t mean that I’ll stop anything – after all, card making really makes me happy and reduces my stress and all.. I will just be reducing the time I spend on it. But, I’ll still be visiting all the blogs of my friends and the ones I admire, to leave comments and get more inspiration…and get ‘wow’ed! 🙂

#479 – Happy Birthday Ma!!

PE: Seven Hills Crafts Winner!! 😀

Seven Hills Crafts - Challenge Winner

Hello!

Its a fine co-incidence that my Ma’s birthday falls in the same month as Mother’s day. 😀 I had said in my post with the Mother’s day card for my Ma that she loved flowers. She absolutely loved that card. I thought of another flower garden card for her birthday too! 🙂 And what better stamp set than the Altenew Golden Garden for the job! 😀

Happy Birthday, Ma

Since I was doing very light watercoloring, with little water, I chose normal cardstock, but since I wanted a little texture, Fabriano Elle Erre Bianca was the perfect choice.

Happy Birthday, Ma

Once I stamped the flowers from the stamp set in Versamark inks, I heat embossed them using Wow! Silver Pearl embossing powder. I then colored the panel using distress inks and Paper Trey Ink inks. Once the panel dried, I added splatters of Deco Art Glamour Dust Ultra Fine Glitter Paint in gold.

Happy Birthday, Ma

Coming to the background. My initial idea was to have the flowery panel on the whole card, but somehow I ended up die cutting it, and then not liking the idea of adding it on a plain card base. I thought of q few ideas, and in the end went with a gold painted striped background. I used Fevicryl Sparkling Pearl colors acrylic paint in gold – such a beautiful sparkling gold, you wouldn’t believe it! 🙂 Loved it. So, once the background was dry, I foam mounted the flower garden panel.

Happy Birthday, Ma

For the sentiment, I used the Happy die cut from Mama Elephant, cutting it from the same card stock and then from some white foam. I used Zig two way glue. I usually use liquid medium for adhering, since I am not good with alignment. This time I chose this because, one, it is like a spongy stick and there were no chances of the glue seeping out and two, it is a pretty good glue. I think I’ll be using this glue for adhering little die cut sentiments from now on! 😀

And before I forget, as I am prising my new glue stick, the stamped and embossed in white sentiment is from Paper Trey Ink.

Happy Birthday, Ma

And finally, my handmade envelope. I made a different kind of envelope this time. The kind you get if you use We R Memory Keepers’ Punch Board. I cut out a template for myself this time, so its easy to make more.

So, I used PTI Classic Kraft ink to stamp the flowers on the envelope, along with the sentiment from Altenew Painted Greetings, stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black. I then added a few dots and also colored a few of the flowers using my Unibal Signo gel pen in gold.

So that’s my card for my Ma’s birthday! Hope she likes it! 🙂

#478 – Guest Designer at Tic-Tac-Toe May Challenge

Hello! I am over the moon to be over at the Tic-Tac-Toe May Challenge!! It was an amazing moment when Ka asked to be a Guest Designer – and there was no way I would say no!!

So, here’s the Tic Tac Toe grid for May –

Challenge 10

Here’s the card I made –

Congratulations

My card was inspired by the diagonal – Chevron, Ombre and Vellum. I used Altenew Persian Motifs to stamp on some vellum and heat embossed it using Wow! copper embossing powder. I then colored the backside with Copics and fussy cut them, just outside the embossed lines.

Congratulations

For the background, I used Heidi Swapp Chevron and blended in Mustard Seed distress ink to create an ombre effect. I then trimmed this panel and used Paper Trey Ink Stitching Lines to add some fancy edges. After mounting this panel on the card base, I adhered the flowers using Ranger Multi Medium Matte and then added the sentiment from Neat & Tangled Everyday Labels, which I stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black. I then embellished the card with some bronze and yellow iridescent sequins.

I really wish you to pop over at the Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge blog- they have some amazing inspiration and I am sure you’ll get super inspired to join in the fun yourself! 🙂

#477 – A Couple of Color Challenges

Hello!

I made a couple of cards based on two color challenges.

The first card is for Waffle Flower May Challenge. I used the leftover piece from another card, that I had made for the same challenge, in this card –

A Note of Thanks

I stamped a couple of more flowers using Waffle Flower In Every Way using Memento Summer Sky, Memento Grape Jelly and Memento Cottage Ivy and fuzzy cut the flowers.

A Note of Thanks

For the background, I used pattern paper from Best of Heidi Swapp. I topped it with a panel of card stock I die cut using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles. I then added a vertical stripe of washi tape, then the flowery stripe, a piece of vellum and then adhered the flowers on top. The sentiment is from WPlus9 Basic Banners, stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black. The card is also adorned with a few small pearls.

My second card is for the My Favorite Things Color Challenge #45

Hearfelt Wishes

I first water-colored a watercolor paper panel using PTI Hibiscus Burst, Spiced Marmalade DI, Mowed Lawn DI and Mermaid Lagoon DI. Once it was dry, I stamped it with My Favorite Things Lacy Background and heat embossed it in white. I also die cut the panel using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle. I then die cut My Favorite Things Pierced Fancy Flourish from black card stock and adhered it to the card along with the sentiment, from Hero Arts All Occasion Messages.

Hearfelt Wishes

For embellishing, I added loads of glitter on the flourish and the sentiment label using my Wink of Stella clear glitter pen – that looks gorgeous, pity I couldn’t capture it in the photos – and also a few black rhinestones.

#476 – CASometry Challenge #2: Make 5

Hello!

Have you known about the CASometry Challenge from the blog of the fabulous Anna Kossakovskaya? Its only the second challenge. I missed the first challenge, and really felt that I should participate in the next one, if she ever held it. The challenge this time is Make 5, i.e., to make 5 CAS cards using a single stamp set (of course, mixing in other stamp sets is allowed, but there needs to be one stamp set in common among all the 5 cards). Here’s my first card I made for the challenge… and today’s post carries the second one. 🙂

Its Your Birthday

I got this idea from a few cards I saw – the idea is to keep no colors at all on the main elements – here the critters – and make it a color splash of sorts – here the balloons. I kinda liked the idea and wanted to try it out. Here are a couple of other ideas I stored in my Pinterest board (here and here), and a couple more, with minimal coloring (here and here).

For this card, I chose Fabriano Elle Erre Bina card stock. The critters are from the same stamp set as earlier – WPlus9 Happy Mail. For the flowery background, I used Purple Onion Designs Blooms, along with a couple of flowers from Happy Mail. The sentiment is from Sizzix Phrases stamp set. I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink to stamp them all.

Its Your Birthday

The balloons are cut using dies from XCut Ballons set. For these, I first colored pieces of vellum using Faber Castell Oil Pastels, spread the color using baby oil (which didn’t spoil the vellum ;)) and then die cut them. I used three shades of color, mixing dark color in lighter areas to get some streaking, thus adding a bit of texture to an otherwise plain card. I drew the string’s lines on the balloons using Copic Multi Liner and then used Multi Medium Matte below them to adhered them to the card. The critters are fuzzy cut and foam mounted to the card.

I am also submitting this card to Just Us Girls Challenge #343: Vellum, Creative With Stamps Challenge #2: Clean and Simple , The Paper Players #295: Wild, Addicted to Stamps #194: Wild and Happy Little Stampers May Challenge: Anything Goes With Dies
