#472 – Wishing Some Happy

My second post for today…Ā  and I have couple of cards with flowers – one using stamping and another using die-cutting. But they have a couple of things in common – I have used plain watercolored, brushstroke background for both, and the main focus of the cards, the flowers are also watercolored.

For my first card –

Happy Birthday

I first colored the background using PTI Tropical Teal and a few scrap pieces of watercolor paper with my watercolors with the desired colors. After they dried, I used Ellen Hutson Bold Blooms to die cut the flowers and leaves. I then stamped the sentiment, from Altenew Label Love, using Memento Tuxedo Black, on another piece of scrap cardstock – thank god for my MISTI, I had to stamp it twice to get good coverage, and I wouldn’t have gotten good results without it! šŸ™‚

Happy Birthday

I then trimmed the background panel and foam mounted it to the card base. After adhering the flowers, I added some gold string before mounting the sentiment. I also added a few transparent sequins for embellishing.

By the way, the rose on the top right is supposed to be pink – my photo editing software just wouldn’t get away from the red shade, no matter what I tried! šŸ˜¦

For my second card, I used stamping as the focus –

Happy Anniversary

I first colored the background a light peach. Once this was relatively dry, I stamped the clustered flowers from WPlus9 Watercolored Anemonies using PTI Sweet Blush, after stamping it off once, on a watercolor panel. I then colored over this using PTI Hibiscus Burst, Spiced Marmalade and Tumbled Glass.

Happy Anniversary

Once done, I trimmed the edges and added the doilies. I stamped the sentiment from The Craft’s Meow Side By Side in Memento Tuxedo Black on a scrap piece of watercolor paper, trimmed it and mounted it with some gold string sandwiched between the sentiment and the panel. I used a mix of sequin + rhinestone to embellish.

  1. These cards are both beautiful Ashwini, particularly love the second one, so soft and feminine and finished off beautifully with the bits of doily (very clever). I have still to try this style of card, I worry too much about keeping in the design and missing bits, I need to relax.
    You have conquered this style.

  2. Swooning over both the cards Ashwini, so striking. First one is simply stunning with the discount cut flowers.
The second one looks fantastic with the doilies.

      • Haha lol…smart phones are really not smart…they auto-correct everything wrong for me…
I am going through some problems, cannot look at screens for long time…Specially computer and phones.
So just giving myself a break….commenting on phone…so I don’t know what type of typos I am leaving behind šŸ˜‰

        • Ha ha – I agree, the auto-correct sometimes just goes so wrong!! You take care of yours eyes, Rahmat! I don’t mind enjoying those typos till they last! šŸ˜€

  3. These are stunners Ashwini – I thought both those colour palettes were difficult this week and gave them both a miss but you’ve totally nailed them. The die cut flowers really pop against that blue wash and the soft watercolour effect in the second is just divine. Thanks for playing along at CAS-ual Fridays!

    • Thank you Claire – I actually missed out quite a few of the color challenges for the past so many weeks, that I was determined to play this time! Anyway, I am glad you liked them..and thanks for stopping by! šŸ™‚

  5. I love the soft watercolor backgrounds on both of your cards. The bold flowers on the first really pop on it – and it adds a beautiful “glow” to the soft flowers on the second card. Thank you for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.
