#621 – A Magnolia Birthday

Hello! I made a mini Magnolia card – using only the inner flower image in the Ellen Hutson Mondo Magnolia stamp.

Birthday Wishes

Ellen Hutson challenges are something I really want to join every single time, but I am somehow not finding enough time to create now-a-days.. I have no idea why time flies so quickly!!

Anyway, coming back to the card… I carefully inked and stamped only the inner portion of the Mondo Magnolia, masking each flower as I stamped the others. I then colored them using distress ink and added some additional shading using color pencils. Finally used a black pen to draw the centers.

Birthday Wishes

I then trimmed the panel using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles die cut, mounted it on a white card base, then added the sentiment. The sentiments are stacked some 4-5 times, and they come from Memory Box Birthday Script and Winnie and Walter In a Word: Wishes dies. I love how these two dies blend together so well.. I think I’ll use them again for another card! πŸ™‚

#620 – Happy Birthday Ma!

PE: Honorable Mention at Just Add Ink!!

Top at Lesia Zgharda!!

Lesia Zgharda - Top

Hello! This is the card I made for my dearest Ma.. which was just a week ago. If you’ve read this blog before, you’d know she loves flowers more than I do.. so its a no brainer when I need to make a card for her.. I just choose flowers.. every single time.. and she loves them! πŸ˜€

Here’s what I made for her this time –

Happy Birthday Ma

I stamped the flowers from Altenew Adore You stamp set (isn’t that perfect?! :)) using Antique Linen distress inks and colored them using Prima watercolor pencils…and watercolored them (these three words cover the effort of 3 days, by the way..).

Happy Birthday Ma

Once done, I trimmed the sides a little bit. I even added and colored leaves where I felt there was too much empty space. Until this point I had only thought of adding the sentiment directly on the panel. But now, I felt that the sentiment wouldn’t show up, amidst all the coloring. I didn’t want to cover those pretty flowers that I spent hours on with some die cut or a sentiment panel. So I went with the easiest solution – vellum.

Happy Birthday Ma

I used Spellbinders Persian Accent die to cut the top of a vellum strip, stamped the sentiment, then aligned and die cut the bottom bit, and finally trimmed the sides. This way, a corner die turned into a frame die! πŸ˜‰ I adhered this on the watercolor panel using Multi Medium Matte. Finally adhered the panel on the kraft cardstock. AndΒ  that’s my card!

I must mention, I am loving the Prima watercolor pencils. I was able to buy just two sets of these pencils.. and I love the colors in them…soft and muted colors which I find difficult to get from some other sets, which have bright and cheery colors.. But of course, you can always add more color and make these colors bright as well.. And also, I am only talking about the two sets that I brought, the other sets might carry brighter colors – I don’t know since I haven’t used them! (Disclaimer: I am not marketing them, I am just stating the fact that I like them)

#617 – With Thanks

Hello! Made this card some time ago while trying out the fresh stash of products that Danielle had sent me.. I just love the curvy lines in the Topography stamp.. and it is so versatile! I can think of so many things to do with this stamp. And the dies in Flower Medallion Builder too..so pretty! Here’s what I came up with –

With Thanks

I first heat embossed the Topology background using silver pearl embossing powder, then colored each section using Zig brush pens. My idea was to try out the card with only coloring, and if I felt that didn’t look good, I could always add water and spread the colors to make it prettier.. as long as the colors didn’t clash, it would look great! And that’s what happened – the colors weren’t looking great just sitting there, so I heavily misted them with some pearl water (water + perfect pearls). I kept this aside to air dry.

With Thanks

I then die cut some watercolor paper using the Flower Medallion Builder dies. I used watercolor paper, since the technique would require some thick paper, and the watercolor paper is the thickest and sturdiest I’ve got. After determining the arrangement, I decided which parts required the embossing, then heat embossed the pieces with copper embossing powder three times, making the pieces look metallic (learned this from Jennifer McGuire!). This, paired with the off-white color of the other diecuts looked really pretty! πŸ™‚

Finally, I trimmed the dried watercolored base, adhered it over the card base, then trimmed the excess from the sides. I then adhered the flowers and a pearl in between. As for the sentiment, I did the same 3-times copper embossing, and also foam mounted it on the card.

Although it is pretty hard to capture this on the image, the brilliant metallic shine of the copper embossing and the soft sheen of the pearl water in the background look pretty well matched.. I really liked this combination.. and the off-white die cuts provide a nice contrast against the two colorful and shiny surfaces.. all in all, I am happy with the results! πŸ™‚

#616 – Succulents & Watercoloring – Two Ways

PE: Inspired by All the Little Things Inspiring Standout!! Yay!!!

Cupcake Inspirations Challenge Sweet Seven!!

Cupcake Inspirations - Sweet Six

Hello! You know all those pretty succulent stamps that have been released by so many companies.. I did want to get one, but I never knew which one to choose. I did decide on one thought – Waffle Flower Potted stamp set. Those neatly grouped succulents are perfect for my watercoloring needs! πŸ™‚ And after such a long time after buying them, I finally put the image to good use.

I tried two watercolor techniques. Both involve heat embossing, give a messy look, and are fantastically fun to make.

With All My Heart

I prepared two watercolor panels – both with the succulent stamped and heat embossed in white. For the first card, I used my inky fingers to create art. Smooshing my chosen distress inks on an acetate, I misted them, picked the ink using my fingers and started adding dots to the paper. The dots aren’t exactly dots, and were rather messy, creating even more puddles and distortion due to the embossing. I let the panel dry in between a couple more layers of adding colors.. just to add to the splotchy look, and making the colors darker.

With All My Heart

Once this dried, I added splatters of the same colors and let it all dry. Finally, I trimmed the piece using Spellbinders Deckled Rectangles, added the sentiment strip, stamped on vellum.. and mounted it on an off-white cardstock – the only one in my stash.. I don’t even remember where I got it from! πŸ˜€

And here’s the second card –

Hello There

For my second card, I went more traditional. I used distress inks again, but this time, just used water and a print brush for messy watercoloring. Love the soft tones in this one! πŸ™‚

I die cut the panel using Winnie & Walter Essentials Lana Cutaways, the sentiment from Winnie & Walter Sketchy Thoughts, then mounted the panel on kraft cardstock.
