PE: Honorable Mention at Just Add Ink!!
Hello! This is the card I made for my dearest Ma.. which was just a week ago. If you’ve read this blog before, you’d know she loves flowers more than I do.. so its a no brainer when I need to make a card for her.. I just choose flowers.. every single time.. and she loves them! 😀
Here’s what I made for her this time –
I stamped the flowers from Altenew Adore You stamp set (isn’t that perfect?! :)) using Antique Linen distress inks and colored them using Prima watercolor pencils…and watercolored them (these three words cover the effort of 3 days, by the way..).
Once done, I trimmed the sides a little bit. I even added and colored leaves where I felt there was too much empty space. Until this point I had only thought of adding the sentiment directly on the panel. But now, I felt that the sentiment wouldn’t show up, amidst all the coloring. I didn’t want to cover those pretty flowers
that I spent hours on with some die cut or a sentiment panel. So I went with the easiest solution – vellum.
I used Spellbinders Persian Accent die to cut the top of a vellum strip, stamped the sentiment, then aligned and die cut the bottom bit, and finally trimmed the sides. This way, a corner die turned into a frame die! 😉 I adhered this on the watercolor panel using Multi Medium Matte. Finally adhered the panel on the kraft cardstock. And that’s my card!
I must mention, I am loving the Prima watercolor pencils. I was able to buy just two sets of these pencils.. and I love the colors in them…soft and muted colors which I find difficult to get from some other sets, which have bright and cheery colors.. But of course, you can always add more color and make these colors bright as well.. And also, I am only talking about the two sets that I brought, the other sets might carry brighter colors – I don’t know since I haven’t used them! (Disclaimer: I am not marketing them, I am just stating the fact that I like them)
I am submitting my card to the following challenges –
Just Add Ink Challenge #361: Just Choose Two: Flowers, Washi Tape or Watercolor (I chose Flowers and Watercolor)
Timeout Challenge #84: Flowers and Friends make life a garden
The Heart Desires Challenge #12 (Inspired by the colors and flowers)
Thank you so much for stopping by! 🙂
What a gorgeous card Ashwini, I bet your mom loved it! WOW 3 days, you are very patient I believe 😉 I love that you added the sentiment on the vellum, it adds interest without disturbing or stealing ,much attention away from the beautifully colored flowers, and LOVE that you added MA, it makes it even more special 🙂
I get a lot more patient when it comes to cards I am giving when compared to cards made just for challenges! 😉😁 And I usually use Amma.. Couldn’t this time because of space issues on the die cut vellum… But since I usually call her Ma, I thought it’s still OK.. 😀 As long as she likes it.. 😊
Beautiful !! Even before you mentioned I thought you must have spent quite some time coloring those flowers 🙂 Three days !! No wonder they look fabulous ,the die cut vellum addition is perfect !
Thanks for sharing about Prima pencils 🙂
Thank you so much Pooja! So sweet of you! Glad you read the Prima pencils part too! 😅
Thank you Cornelia, kind of you!
Happy (belated) Birthday to your Ma! Taking in consideration the daughter she has, no wonder that your mother loves flower cards… this is a showstopper, just WOW! I’ll pin it as soon as I find the Pinterest icon :).
Thank you so much Cris! You flatter me!! But it is the reverse – the daughter loves flowers because the mother does!! 😁
Oh wow, Ashwini, this is stunning! I love the contrasts between your softly coloured flowers and vibrant leaves. Your three days of colouring was definitely worth it! Using the vellum for your sentiment and the pretty details in the frame is a wonderful solution to allowing them to shine after all that work 🙂 Thanks for sharing with us at Just Add Ink this week.
