#784 – Happy Birthday Papa!

Hello! Its time for another challenge at the Seize the Birthday, and this time, the cake comes without toppings again! That’s right, its time for an Anything Goes challenge!

Seize The Birthday - Anything Goes

The card I made is for my Papa’s birthday, which comes in a few days. Its a bit funny, cuz I had posted my Ma’s birthday card for the last ‘Anything Goes’ challenge! πŸ˜€

So, anyway, here’s the card –

For this card, though I was going to watercolor, I chose to go without watercolor paper, but a normal carsdtock, which was a bit more resilient to watercoloring than normal cardstock. Of course, it wouldn’t be as good as watercolor paper, but it served by purpose, as I wasn’t going to use too much water while coloring.

First, I gold heat embossed all the images I wanted separately. The flowers are from Altenew Magnolias For You, the tinier ones from Altenew Beautiful Day and the leaves are from Ellen Hutson Mondo Peony. Once done, I watercolored the images using Gansay Tambi colors, and once dried, I fussy cut the images, leaving just the least bit of cardstock on the outlines to show.

For the base, I chose Neat & Tangled Art Deco background, and gold heat embossed the image. I then heat embossed the sentiment, which is from Simon Says Stamp Birthday Bits, twice (since the lines on the scrip are absolutely thin, I wanted it to be a bit thicker). I also added some color, by watercoloring using Zig Brush pens, around the perimeter, leaving the center, where the sentiment is, completely uncolored. Once this dried, I also added lot of splatters using Camlin Drawing ink. I then trimmed this panel and adhered it on the card base. I then foam mounted or directly adhered the fussy cut images, around this design.

And for the envelope, I went with pattern paper. The sentiment is the same as the one I used for the card, and I added a few hearts from the same stamp set.

  1. Love your creative mind Ashwini! This is gorgeous and I am sure your Pa will love it! Things are less than calm in my neck of the woods…so crafting and blog surfing is being neglected! So I apologize for my absence and lack of dropping by! Thank goodness I work ahead! Cyber hugs!

    • Never mind you not being able to stop by, Nancy; I just hope you are not pushing yourself too much! Please take care! And thank you so much for your kind words!

  2. Ohhhh my goodness I love this card and how you have used that Neat and Tangled background. I have it and have not used it as it seems such a feat but love what you have done here. So highlights the flower you have watercoloured so perfectly. Wonderful

    • Frankly, this is the first time I’ve ever used it too! And I am wondering why I hadn’t used it before!! πŸ˜†
Thanks for stopping by Aileen! I really appreciate it!

  3. Ashwini, once again you have created a stunning card! I love that geometric background, and it provides such contrast to the organic florals. Beautiful watercoloring, too!

  4. Hi Ashwini. I left a comment on the weekend, but when I went to post, it bumped me up to the top and obviously didn’t post. So let’s try this again.
Your card is gorgeous and elegant. Fantastic take on the inspiration photo. x
And happy birthday to your dad!

    • Sorry that it didn’t work the first time – not sure what might have gone wrong. But thanks for coming back again and leaving some kind word for me. I really appreciate it, Trina! ❀️

  5. This is a stunning card Ashwini! The colouring is superb and the art deco background is inspired and adds such a lot of interest.
Thanks for sharing with us at Happy Little Stampers.
