Hello and welcome! We have a new challenge on Seize the Birthday blog. The challenge is to make birthday projects, and you also have the option of using a ‘Topping’ that is given in every challenge. And the ‘Topping’ this time, selected by Cathy, is ‘Texture’!
The first thing I thought of, when thinking of texture is embossing. There are a hell lot of techniques involving embossing for texture, but I then thought of making something different – how about trying something visual instead of tactile. And so, I started experimenting on making some wood texture for my cards and here’s what I ended up with –
What do you think of those wood textures? I absolutely loved making them – and so easy to make too!! 😀 I started with some pale yellow pieces of cardstock. I then swiped some distress oxide inks and pigment inks in just 2-3 shades over the card stock. Also added a few ovals, to form tree rings. Of course, I used lighter inks for the lighter wood and darker ones for the darker wood (including a little bit of black soot). I then swiped a light color of chalk ink over the whole thing, which helped in blending the colors and also softening the look, which made the paper look more like bark. Left it to dry completely. That’s it!! Wood paper ready to use!!
I trimmed the pieces to size and die cut the flower images out of them using Spellbinders Nordic Blooms dies. I then adhered them over several other die cut pieces. For the lighter wood, I used pattern paper from Recollections Black and White paper pad and for the darker wood, I used a piece of bright orange cardstock. Placing the papers to from a sandwich between the card base and the texture paper, I adhered the papers, swapped the flower die cuts and adhered them too. The sentiment for the darker piece comes from Hero Arts All Occasion Messages and for the lighter one comes from WPlus9 Banner Basics. Didn’t think any more embellishments were needed! 🙂
I hope you are inspired by this card! Check out the Seize the Birthday blog for more inspiration from out fabulous DT and also from our talented Surprise Party Guest, Tenia Nelson! And don’t forget to join the party! 🙂
Thank you so much for stopping by! 🙂
