#846 – Seize the Birthday – Layer It!!

Hello and welcome!! Its just the second day of the new year, so I wish everyone a happy and prosperous new year!!

And to make it a crafty new year too, we have a new challenge, the very first of the new year, at Seize the Birthday challenge! You should check out the new look of the blog!! The topping this time is picked by me – ‘Layer It!

2020-01-02-LayerIt

You can choose to add layers however you like – using stencils, stamps or die cuts – even layers of cardstock! But even still, if you don’t like layering, you can choose to go without the topping and join us with any birthday themed project.

And here’s what I made –

Layer It!

Though it is a new year, I am mostly using supplies that I’ve had with me for a long time. I just felt like using them, you see! πŸ™‚

I first stamped a white panel with Tsukineko Delicata gold ink using Penny Black Roman Surround background stamp. After it dried, I mounted this on a navy blue card base. I then tore another piece of the same navy blue cardstock, blended in some black soot distress oxide ink on the untorn sides and adhered it on top.

I then die cut the butterflies from navy blue and white cardstocks, using My Favorite Things Flutter of Butterflies solid and lacy dies. I also added three layers of gold heat embossing on the body of the insect and adhered all the pieces together. I then arranged and adhered it on the card.

For the sentiment, I chose Penny Black Sentimental stamp, which I gold heat embossed thrice, trimmed and foam mounted on the card. For embellishing, I used gold and blue sequins.

  1. Beautiful card Ashwini. Love the pretty layered butterflies with the gold embossed bodies, very striking. The background is great also. Thanks for a fun challenge.
    Happy New Year.

  2. The theme that I am seeing already for this year seems to be to use the supplies that you have. A good resolution don’t you think? Love what you have done with your card for this challenge. The layers and the blue and gold are awe-inspiring. Thanks again for the new look.

  3. Love the card – the combo of colors is magnificent! I don’t think you planned for it but the blue might just be a nod to Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2020. πŸ˜€

  4. Happy New Year Ashwini! This card is soooooo pretty and elegant too! Love navy and gold and your layout is amazing too! Way to start the year off strong with an outstanding card!

  5. Oh my goodness!!! Your creations always take my breath away… and those colors together are the perfect combination! Have I told you that there is a Portuguese saying about that combo? Maybe “just” five or six times 🀣?
    Happy New Year, Ashwini!

      • Well, I would love to tell you something exquisite or very interesting about this saying, but it’s just something similar to “the cherry on top”. It’s usually used when you are expecting something really good to happen, or even an unexpected dream come true, we say it’s “gold over blue”. That’s it, nothing fancy :)!

  6. I love the new badges, Ashwini, they look fantastic and so festive! Your card is amazing too with all the wonderful layers! Thanks for a fun challenge and forcing me out of my comfort zone! Happy New Year!

  7. What an elegant and chic color combination! I love gold with navy! The added black on the edge makes such a difference!
    A gorgeous card!!!
