#864 – STB: Monochromatic

Hello and welcome! Time for a new challenge at Seize the Birthday challenge! We always have ‘Anything Goes’ as an option and you can join in as long as it’s a project with a birthday theme, but, if you want little challenge, you can choose to go with the Topping.Β  And the topping this time, chosen by our talented teammate TaeEun, is ‘Monochrome’.

And here’s what I made –

Monochrome

I started with the Altenew Feathered Leaves stencil. I used a watercolor panel for the card base instead of regular cardstock for some additional texture.

Before I started, I made a mask for the entire stencil. I then cut off the individual leaves from the mask. I then placed the stencil on the panel and then placed each individual piece of the mask on it. I then used a few distress inks in shades of greens to apply color to each leaf, taking off selected few masks to apply the colors and replacing them once I was done. Though it sounds tedious, it was surprisingly quick.

I then took off all the pieces of the mask and liberally sprinked some water on, which I dried off after a few moments, giving the splattered look to the panel. Finally I took the stencil off. Waited some time for it to air dry completely and then trimmed it to size. I then foam mounted this on a watercolor paper card base.

Next came the sentiment from Stamploration Celebrate – I die cut a few scrap pieces of cardstocks with this and then the top most piece from gold foil cardstock, and adhered all the pieces. As I placed the piece on top, I felt that some additional layer was required in between. So, took a scrap piece of watercolor paper I had, copped off the edges here and there, to get a random shape and placed this behind the sentiment.

To finish off, I chose a few sequins of green and gold, of various sizes and adhered them on the panel.

  2. What an interesting process that you did to get you this amazing looking card front. It looks like there is a lot of texture that I wanted to reach out and touch it. Lol

  3. It does sound tedious but looks so pretty with the different stenciled colors. Great card Ashwini.

  4. It sounds very tedious but with fabulous results! Love the way the colors blended so well. This card is really eye-catching Ashwini!

  5. The bright green leaves are beautiful! You did a great job to give each of them a beautiful depth of colors!

  6. Its so refreshing to look at those greens specially in hot summers like ours ! Never thought of using mask with stencils..something different though you say its not tedious but cutting them is time consuming ! You are really an inspiration Ashwini giving so much thought to card designs .

  7. You made a mask for the whole stencil?!?!? That sounds exhausting and I agree – the whole sounds complex and I’m still not sure I understand it all! But this is absolutely stunning – such a gorgeous card. You always blow me away with your cards.

    • It’s wasn’t much work with this particular stencil. And maybe it will be easier to understand when doing rather than trying to explain! πŸ€”πŸ˜…πŸ˜
