#880 – Inspiration Station #12

Hello and welcome! Finally, its time for yet another Inspiration Station challenge! Its challenge #12 and the theme is chosen by my sister.

And here’s the picture collage that she chose – it is a beautiful collage of various Dimensional Polymer Clay Journal Covers that she found on Pinterest.

And here’s what I made –

My inspiration came from the designs, the florals in the right most image in the middle row, and of course, the colors.. although the colors in the card are a bit more vivid than the ones in the inspiration! 🙂

To make the panel, I used some texture paper I’ve long had in my stash (earlier used here and here). I used Spellbinders Flora embossing folder, smudged one side of the folder with distress inks, misted it and then, keeping the paper in between, embossed it. With this, the color transferred and I got some cool colors also on the paper. I had to repeat a few more times to get some good coverage – and even then a few bits and pieces were still left colorless – which I let be.

After it dried, I used black soot distress oxide ink pad to swipe the raised portions. My plan was to add gold embossing, giving it a distressed look, but that didn’t work, since the embossing powder stuck too well. So I used a brush to flick powder off here and there, and heat embossed it.

Once done, I moved to the flowers and the sentiment. The flowers from Altenew’s Persian Motifs are gold heat embossed, and colored using zig brush marker pens. The same for the sentiment from My Favorite Things Sweet Hello. I then foam mounted them on the panel, which I then adhered to a black card base. I debated about adding a few black rhinestones, but let it be in the end.

So that’s my card! Check out what my sister has made. An enchanting mixed media tag – it even includes a crocheted flower that she made herself!

And thank you so much for stopping by! 🙂

  2. You know, I kept thinking that your card gives a very familiar kinda feel, and I couldn’t exactly put my finger on it. Now I actually think it is because it resembles embroidered saris and vintage boxes! 🙂 Anyway, I’m definitely trying out something like this for a journal cover – you’ve definitely inspired me with this one.
