#955 – Balloon Travels!

Hello and welcome! Time for another Seize the Birthday challenge and the Topping, chosen this time by Glenda is ‘Travel‘. If you’re not a toppings kinda person, well…..you can just stick with our usual “Anything Goes”Birthday! The choice is yours!

And this is what I created – a cat traveling using balloons!! Isn’t that an awesome idea to travel?!! 😀

I chose the kitty from Pink and Main Catitude stamp set, and the balloons from Simon Says Stamp Birthday Bits and stamped with VersaFine Onyx black pigment ink on watercolor paper from Hndmd. I then die cut it using Neat and Tangled Scallop die cut, since I wanted to have an idea of until where I needed to watercolor the image.

After the ink dried, I watercolored the image using distress inks. Once this dried, I added a bit more on the outline of the balloons, as they weren’t as thick as the kitty’s lines, using Uniball fine line markers. I also added a few splatters and then redid the stars and the patterns on the balloons, as they somehow seemed a but dull after the watercoloring.

Once this was all done, I again got a little lost on what to lay the image on. Finally decided on this partial kraft-partial white background for the card base, so that the overall effect isn’t too dark. I foam mounted the watercolored image on this. For the sentiment, I used the same watercolor paper, and added some watercoloring in shades of yellow. I stamped the sentiments from My Favorite Things Cat-titude and trimmed them and then foam mounted them on my card.

Since there was already a ton of details on this card, I didn’t crowd it with any more embellishing. And that finished my card!

  1. I love the whimsical look of this fun image and card. It reminds me of the hot air balloon ride that I had once. So smooth and gliding in the air.

  2. What a fun card. Love the background for your cute image. Who says you can’t travel by balloons. I thought of the same thing but went a different route.

  3. You are becoming such a fabulous artist. Your card is once again wonderful! I love your fun background and creative idea! Hope you are well! HUGS!

  4. I love the vibrancy of this and all you detail and how you have tied it in. Your scalloped edge and 2 tone base card are brilliant. It is so well balanced xx
