#958 – Unicorn Friends

Hello and welcome! Starting of a new month, and the first thing up is Happy Little Stampers Watercolor challenge. As always, it is an Anything Goes challenge –

And this is what I made for this month’s inspiration –

I was, in fact making this card for somthing else, and in between I thought this would make a fine card for the Watercolor challenge instead. 😀

I started with the background. I used CrafTangles Handmade watercolor paper. When I bought this paper for just trying it out, I found it to be pretty and I wasn’t able to do any fine watercoloring on it. On the other hand, coloring for outdoor scenes was relatively easy, so I decided to use it here. I used my cheap watercolor cakes to color this. I had to color it thrice, since the colors weren’t bright or deep enough. And that much pigment on the paper started sticking everywhere on my fingers, making marks elsewhere on the card, so I added some fixative on top to seal the color off.

Next, the unicorns – I chose a couple of them from My Favorite Things Friendly Unicorns, stamped them using VersaFine black Onyx ink on Fabriano Accademia Disegno Drawing paper and colored them using Faber Castell Polychromos pencil, finally using paper stumps dipped in baby oil to blend the colors. Once done, I fussy cut them.

I then adhered the dried watercolor piece on a white card base. On top I die cut a few pieces of My Favorite Things Stitched Rolling Clouds Edges, a couple of each kind. After adhering the top pieces of the clouds, I stamped the sentiments on both bottom pieces of the of the clouds and then adhered them on the card. The sentiments came from The Stamp Market Scripty Sentiments and Concord and 9th Lots to Say stamp sets. Finally, I adhered the stars of the card – the Unicorns, by using a couple of pieces underneath to get some additional dimension.
