Hello and welcome! It’s time for a new challenge at Seize the Birthday and this time the Topping is chosen by Glenda to be ‘Use Your Initials’. What she means is to use words beginning with your initials to be featured in your project. Isn’t that a cool idea!?
This was something completely new for me and I had a fun time thinking about what I can pick with A and R. I even made a list to consider, and then chose my words to make this card –
Can you guess the words? A for ‘Autumn Colors’ and R for ‘Rosemaling’! And I was so glad to use this stamp after such a long time!! It’s probably my second time using it, even though I really love the versatility of this stamp set. I used this color palette for inspiration, though I did replace the Gold Coast for Chartreuse.

I used the Lil Inker Designs ‘Really Rosemaling’ stamp set, stamped my Rosemaling onto a white cardstock panel. While arranging the pieces I also made some space for the sentiment, which is from Simon Says Stamp ‘Beautiful Flowers’ stamp set. I also considered that I would die cut the piece later using My Favorite Stamp ‘Elegant Rectangle’ die, so I stamped the sentiment curved to fit the curve of the die.
I also die cut another piece for the frame and then painted it black using watercolor. Why watercolor instead of black cardstock? Well, I initially thought of making the frame gold, so I thought of painting it in gold watercolor. That didn’t look good, I changed it to black! I let it dry before assembling the card. I added the center piece with a die cut foam sheet in between to get some dimension and then the frame, onto a dark cream card base. I considered adding some gemstones for embellishing, but decided against it, since I wanted the Rosemaling and the colors to shine in this card. 🙂
And that’s my card! Checkout what the rest of the team created mates and our Surprise Party Guest Stephanie Lanzalotto and the winner of the last challenge Melanie have created at the Seize the Birthday challenge blog!
Thank you so much for stopping by!
Very clever use of your initials, love those colours and the way you have framed the image xx
This is so clever, Ashwini. I must say that Rosmaling is a new word for me. I did not know that this style of art had this name! I love your design and the colors you used are wonderful. The curved sentiment looks great and that elegant rectangle really add a lot to your design.
Ashwini, beautiful card and I too, did not know what Rosmaling meant so had to look it up. Great use of your initials for your card.
Ashwini, first and foremost, thanks for educating us. I have not heard of that word before and it looks like I am not alone. You always come up with the most unique and pretty cards. It is always a pleasure to see what you are going to do. This is wonderful.
Well I love your card, and learned a lot reading your post. I also had not heard of the word Rosmaling, but I also discovered the ColorSnap site, that is such a neat tool! Thanks for having me as your party guest for this fun challenge!
Ashwini, I researched my initials too, but not as thoroughly as you did. Your card is colorful and I love the design. Great examples of your initials!
Wonderful use of the pattern and mixed colors!
So stunning, Ashwini and so very clever of you to find something so unique in your stash and it totally worked for this challenge!
Very clever Ashwini! I must confess though that I had to look up the term rosmaling. Learn something new everyday. Beautiful card!
Such a pretty card Ashwini, I too hadn’t heard of rosmaling and had a look at the colour site too! Clever use of your initials, Cathy x
I’m another one who had to look up rosemaling – I think you’ve educated the whole team, Ashwini! Fabulous card, and I love the colour scheme.
This is gorgeous and you were very clever in your implementation of the initials theme. Love it! Thank you for educating all of us on rosemaling (you can add me to the list too).
