#1033 – STB: Card for a Child

Hello and welcome! It’s time for a new challenge at Seize the Birthday and this time, the Topping is chosen by Linda to be ‘Card for a Child‘. Of course, the topping is optional and you can choose to go without it and make any Birthday project to join the challenge.

And here’s what I made –

Using black cardstock might not seem too bright, maybe not the perfect color for a child, but I still went with it. I mean, why not have Unicorns and rainbows on a night sky, right? They still look fabulous, day or night!! 😀

On a black card stock panel, I stamped a unicorn from the MFT Friendly Unicorn stamp set using white pigment ink and used my Faber Castell Polychromos pencils to color it. I also colored the rainbow below it. I then splattered some stars using white pigment ink with some water and brush. I also added some meteorites above and painted some clouds below using the same pigment ink.

I then die cut the panel using Neat & Tangled Scalloped die and then tried to blend in some white pigment ink from the edges…which didn’t blend in very well. Hmmm. Nothing I can do at this point, so I left it as is. I then stamped the sentiment from the same set using white pigment ink as well. I then added this panel over a black card base. And that finished my card!

Step over to the Seize the Birthday challenge blog to checkout more creations from our new Surprise Party Guest Hilary Wright and the rest of the DT.

And thank you so much for stopping by! 🙂

  1. I think the black base works really well as a background for your fabulous unicorn. The colouring has worked so well over the black. I love it, including the inked edges. I am so happy to be joining you this month xx

  2. For this magical card you really needed that back background and it 100% works. Your coloring brought that unicorn to life and on the rainbow, it is outstanding.

  3. Your black background is perfect for the great night sky you created for the magical unicorn. Love your coloring and your blending scallop edges too,it look like clouds.

  4. I showed my 4-year-old granddaughter your card and she loved it and wanted to know if I had the things to make this card. She loves unicorns. The black cardstock with the rainbow is so pretty. Awesome card.

  5. Ashwini, You are so talented! You certainly made that unicorn come to life and the rainbow looks incredible on black. You nailed this topping.

  6. Your unicorn and rainbow pop on the black background Ashwini, the colours are so vibrant, gorgeous card, Cathy x

  7. Your card is awesome, Ashwini! The rainbow and unicorn really stand out on the black. I love the highlighting on the unicorn, and the shooting stars (I can do that unintentionally when I’m splattering inks and paints 😄). And I never even noticed the blending!
