#686 – Oh Happy Day

Hello and welcome! Like I said in a previous post, I am swooning over distress oxide inks now-a-days. For making this card as well. Here, once again I used the property of the inks to layer colors without ending up with muddy mucky colors.

Oh Happy Day

I initially colored a watercolor panel with yellows and pinks, dried it, embossed on it the sentiment from Ellen Hutson Bold Blooms and the flowers from Mondo Magnolia, which I overlapped with each other, using copper embossing powder. Once done, I added another layer of blues on top.

For coloring the panel this time, I added colored the panel by adding the ink directly on the paper by swiping the ink pad on the paper. Of course, I don’t totally cover the paper, since the ink can color quite a large surface. Once I smoosh all the inks, I use a brush loaded with water to spread it around. If more color is needed, I used ink smooshed on a non-sticky surface.

Oh Happy Day

You might see a bit of yellow here and there, but that’s not the layering, but because I added too much water while sprinkling water to get a bit of texture…yeah, too much water can do that! πŸ˜€ Once everything was dry, I added another layer of clear sparkle embossing on top of the sentiment.

I must admit, I am totally loving layering these inks like this – Never known another medium (and I am talking about watercolor mediums or the like) which I could layer, so I am truly happy with this! πŸ™‚

So, anyway.. I am submitting this card to the following challenges –

#663 – Say Hey to Coffee

Hello! I made a couple of cards, both of which I made yesterday –

Hey Friend

For my first card, I used Ellen Hutson Bohemian Garden stamps set, heat embossing the images in white, then colored the images with Zig brush markers. The sentiment is from My Favorite Things Friends and Paper Smooches Hello dies.

#632 – Thank You

Hello! Finally posting a card I’d made and sent to a dear blogging friend.. I somehow missed posting about this card then, so here it is now! πŸ™‚

Thank You

Frankly, when I made this card, I had no idea where I was going – not even what stamp sets I would use – I just built it as it came.

I used Ellen Hutson Mondo Peony stamp set – beautiful large flowers, just perfect for some watercoloring. I wanted to watercolor this using Gansai Tambi colors, so heat embossed it in black, so I wouldn’t have to worry about the pigment washing out the flower’s outline. Like I said, I watercolored them, then trimmed the flowers and leaves, arranging them over a longish watercolor paper panel.. the dimension is not something I measured. I just wanted a longish card, and just went with what pleased my eye. πŸ™‚

Thank You

Once I finished with this, I painted the background, then used Penny Black Trailing Vines stencil with to add some more details to the background. I then adhered the flowers and leaves on top, trimming the excess and adhered the whole thing on a dark grey cardstock.

Then came the sentiment, a combination of Simon Says Stamp You die cut and Reverse Confetti All About You stamp. I added a few drops of Nuvo Drops in Bright Gold and Ebony Black for embellishing.

#630 – Seize the Birthday – No Toppings

Hello and welcome to a newΒ  challenge at Seize the Birthday! This time is a ‘No Toppings’ challenge, meaning, that you can go with absolutely any kind of project you want, as long as it is Birthday Themed! Isn’t that awesome! πŸ™‚

Seize The Birthday - Anything Goes

Here’s my inspiration for you –

Happy Birthday

To make this card, I first used ink smooshing with distress inks, choosing pink inks and made a gradient formation on a watercolor panel. Once I got the desired look, I let it dry. Once dry, I added some background using Penny Black Trailing Vines stencil, using the same distress inks, but going a bit darker than the underlying color, so that the texture stood out just a bit. I then trimmed the panel to size.

Happy Birthday

I then die cut the flower and leaves using Ellen Hutson Bold Blooms, gold heat embossed the sentiment, from Altenew Painted Greetings on vellum, then adhered it all on the panel, which I then adhered on the card base, I added a few drops of gold Deco Art Glamour Dust Ultra Fine Glitter Paint, to add shimmer to the card.

#621 – A Magnolia Birthday

Hello! I made a mini Magnolia card – using only the inner flower image in the Ellen Hutson Mondo Magnolia stamp.

Birthday Wishes

Ellen Hutson challenges are something I really want to join every single time, but I am somehow not finding enough time to create now-a-days.. I have no idea why time flies so quickly!!

Anyway, coming back to the card… I carefully inked and stamped only the inner portion of the Mondo Magnolia, masking each flower as I stamped the others. I then colored them using distress ink and added some additional shading using color pencils. Finally used a black pen to draw the centers.

Birthday Wishes

I then trimmed the panel using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles die cut, mounted it on a white card base, then added the sentiment. The sentiments are stacked some 4-5 times, and they come from Memory Box Birthday Script and Winnie and Walter In a Word: Wishes dies. I love how these two dies blend together so well.. I think I’ll use them again for another card! πŸ™‚

#556 – Thanks..with Alcohol Inks

PE: Highlight at The Mixed Media Challenge!!!

The Mixed Media Challenge - Honorable Mention

I am still experimenting with alcohol inks. This time, I wanted to somehow get the effects that are so easily created using Yupo paper. I just love how it looks like colors have burst and go boom when you use that paper – just awesome! And since I don’t have any similar paper, I went with a piece of clear plastic instead. Its not exactly the same, but the results are pretty awesome!

Thanks

After adding drops of alcohol inks on the clear plastic piece, I blew it using a straw, added more blending solution, blew it, adding ink, blew it…and so on, till I got this look.

Thanks

I thought of directly adhering this on a card base, but since there was quite some space where I hadn’t added any ink, I thought of adding some texture there. I used American Crafts Shimelle Woodgrain embossing folder on a card panel, then adhered the clear (now not so clear) plastic using double sided tape. The tape isn’t exactly invisible, but since there is texture and ink covering it, it was no problem. πŸ™‚

I then trimmed the panel. I used Ellen Hutson Wild Garden dies on a special paper I had – grey woodgrain paper, on which I swiped black ink – and adhered the flower and leaves using more double sided tape. Then finally came the sentiment, from Paper Trey Ink Wet Paint dies – I used the negative of the die cut that I had saved – cut from acrylic silver painted paper.

And that finished my card! I had super fun making this – don’t think I’ve used so much of mixed media in quite a while!! πŸ˜€

Ellen Hutson - Pin Sights Challenge

Pairing in a new stamp I got in my stash, from Lesia Zgharda, with my oldest Ellen Hutson stamp. I did want to add a bit more pink in it, to go with the photo inpiration, but I couldn’t get it in.. But I do like this look with a blend of nature and geometry.. πŸ™‚

Celebrate

Supplies used:
Ellen Hutson Mondo Magnolia – I used vellum to white heat emboss the flower and then colored the back using oil pastels.
Lesia Zgharda Rombo Trikutniki
Paper Trey Ink Wet Paint 3 (I used card stock painted with silver acrylic paint, and then black foam die cut behind it. The stamped sentiment uses Hero Arts Unicorn white pigment ink)
