#674 – Its The Season for Pumpkin Everything!

Hello! Its time for a new challenge at Little Tangles challenge, and this time, we have a neat little sketch for you to try!

2017-10 Sketch

And since I was in the mood for autumn colors…

Pumkin Everything

…a mixed media card! Well, mostly, since I only used two elements other than the stamps and the adhesives – tissue paper and distress oxide inks.

Here’s how I made the focal point of the card – I first placed the stamp, Pumpkin Everything, over a stamping block – just so that nothing moved, and I had a solid base to lay the tissue paper on. I then used several pieces of tissue, layered them over the stamp, adding water using a brush to throughly wet the tissue, as I kept adding the layers. I must have added about 10 layers for this piece. (I learnt it from this tutorial)

Pumkin Everything

Once the casted piece was dry, I used distress oxide inks on the stamp, stamped it over. It didn’t stamp well the first time, and I had to stamp it several times. I didn’t even get the position right every time, but it did look great, so I decided to use the piece.

For the background panel, I used the same set of distress oxide inks, and used a brayer to apply the ink on the cardstock panel. And before mounting the casted piece, I trimmed it a bit, then distressed the sides a bit (not too much, or the tissue would tear). I then used glue on both the pieces to adhere it to the card base.

Pumkin Everything

A few of things I noticed about the casting –

  • As taught in the video, it is better to use a stamp without too many details. But if you do want some details (like I have here) a better option is to tear the tissue paper into smaller pieces and try to apply them evenly over the stamp. Use the brush to gently push the tissue while into the stamp’s details while applying water, ensuring not to tear it as much as possible
  • To dry the piece, you can either leave it overnight or if you are impatient like me, use a heat gun. This time, since we had heavy rains, even the heat gun wasn’t working for me, so I used the microwave oven to heat it up. Since it is only paper and water, it is not harmful at all! πŸ™‚
  • If you find that not all the tissue papers have adhered, you can always use some glue to stick them back together.

#664 – Little Tangles September Challenge

Hello! Its September already! And we are on to a new challenge with the Little Tangles Challenge #84 – it is ‘Add details inside card or to Create a matching envelope’ – so you do have an option there.

2017-09 Badge

For my card, I chose to go with adding details to the card’s inside. In fact, my card continues on from the card front to the inside..

Warm Winter Wishes

I used a watercolor paper for the card base and actually started with the inside of the card. I first made the watercolored sky, coloring using Zig Brush markers and a brush loaded with water. πŸ™‚ Once dry, I stamped the trees from Scandinavian Prints Christmas using distress inks and then proceeded to the card front.

Warm Winter Wishes

Once I completed coloring the sky and stamped the trees, I stamped the falling snow and also the little houses from the Winter Wishes stamp set, then finally stamped the sentiments from the same stamp set on the outside and the inside.

Warm Winter Wishes

#648 – Tasseled Birthday Card

Hello! I love it when I make a card submit it to multiple challenges, and I also love making one card for my challenge DT – Its a new challenge at both Little Tangles Challenge and Seize the Birthday Challenge!!

Little Tangles August Challenge has a new theme of ‘Birthday’. Just perfect, since Neat & Tangled is celebrating 5 years now!

2017-08 Badge.jpg

Seize the Birthday Challenge this time has the optional topping of ‘Tie One On’.

Seize The Birthday - The Toppings

Seize The Birthday - Anything Goes

Its a wonderful co-incidence for me, that both the challenges are airing on the same day, and a treat, since I love making birthday cards!! πŸ™‚ So, here’s my tassled, sparkly gold inspiration for you –

Happy Birthday

I used all Neat and Tangled products on this one! I first used Topography stamp to gold heat emboss the background on a cardstock panel and trimmed a bit on the sides. This, I foam mounted on the card base. I then took another piece of cardstock panel, applied Tarnished Brass and Brushed Pewter distress paints, blending the two at the center to create a beautiful gradient (I just love the look it gives! :))

Happy Birthday

Once this dried, I die cut it using Doily Tag die, another of my N&T favorite, and tied my handmade tassel (first time I made one!! :D) on it, adhering the excess in the back. I then adhered this to the card, adding the adhesive in the center only, so that the sides rose a bit, giving it a bit more 3D look. I then added the sentiments – Happy Holidays die and mix and match of the letters in Faced stamp set, to create the ‘Birthday’ word.. since I didn’t own any other stamp set from N&T which said birthday and matched the die.. Well, it worked well, so I am glad! πŸ™‚ Finally added some sequins as embellishment.

With this card, I am joining the following challenges –

2017-07 Badge

And here’s the inspiration card I made –

Thinking of You

This is a one layer card. Yes, one layer! I’ve not used any dimensions here!! πŸ™‚ And I used masking twice while making it, using both the positive and the negative parts of the mask. That’s a first for me!! πŸ™‚

First of all, I die cut a piece of sticky notes paper using Neat and Tangled A Lot to Say die. I retained both the positive and the negative pieces. Then, I used the positive piece first, centering as much as I could upon the card base, then stamped all the flora from NeatΒ  and Tangled Hand Stitched stamp set. I took off the mask, applied the negative and drew an outline. This was to help me determine till where the images and coloring would need to be extended to ensure the final look would not be disjoined.

I took the mask off again, then colored the flora using Zig Brush marker pens. I also used my Unibal Signo black gel pen wherever the image wasn’t joined to the outline I drew earlier.

Thinking of You

Now to use the second masking. I replaced the negative mask, then blended in some colors using distress ink. I then white heat embossed the sentiment from Neat and Tangled Paper Cut Flowers stamp set.

Finally, I used Faber Castell color pencils to draw a shadow effect on the color blended area. Of course, copic markers might have been easier, but I don’t own any, so pencils were just as good! πŸ™‚

I hope you are inspired by my card. You can find more inspiration in the Little Tangles Challenge blog! Hope you join the fun! πŸ™‚

#622 – Little Tangles June Challenge: Color Combo

PE: Favorite at Happy Little Stampers Watercolor Challenge!!

Happy Little Stampers - Watercolour Favourite Badge

Hello and welcome to the Little Tangles June challenge. The challenge this time is to use the color combination from the inspiration image below –

2017-06 Little Tangles Color Combo Inspiration

And here’s my inspiration for you –

So Very Blessed

For this set of colors, since there was a green in it, my obvious choice was to go with flowers. Scandinavian Prints stamp set immediately came to my mind… but since I had used it in one of the previous challenges, I thought I would like to use something else. I then chose the birds.. My Heart Sings is one of the first birdie stamp sets that I’ve bought.. I still love them, though I use them a little less then some other critters.. but they are still really cute! And the variegated colors of pink was just the right color! πŸ™‚

So Very Blessed

I chose the flowers from Hand Stitched to form a partial wreath for the birds to frame.. and then got stuck on the background. I tried some 3 backgrounds, until I finally (phew!) like the one I made using the Pentagon stencil. I used distress inks to color everything.. watercoloring for the birds and flowers and ink blending for the stencil…they are such versatile inks after all! πŸ™‚

The sentiment comes from Gardenia Blooms Journalling Card stamp set. To finish, some mixed color sequins..and that’s my card for you! πŸ™‚ Do stop by the Little Tangles Challenge blog for more inspiration from my fantastic team mates!

#611 – Little Tangles Challenge #80 – Stencil

Hello everyone! Today’s the day for a new challenge at Little Tangles and the theme this time is ‘Stencil’

2017-05 Badge

Such a versatile tool – stencil!! I could think of dozens of things to do with this tool.. and I even got some pretty new products from the most generous Danielle! And so, wanting the stencil(ling) to be the focus in this card, I decided to do embossing using the stencil.

Just Because

I used Neat and Tangled Geometric Blooms stencil with some colored embossing paste. Making sure I didn’t cover the card panel completely or evenly, I set it aside to dry. I got to use another brand new (in my stash, courtesy Danielle) Neat & Tangled product with me – Flower Medallion Builder.. and this one is really so pretty, I am tickled pink!!! πŸ˜‰

Just Because

Well, I just used the plain white die cut cut as is, tucking it behind the sentiment from the stamp set with the same name.. I added a piece of black striped paper on the card base before trimming the stencil panel and adhering it on. The flower die cuts and the sentiment came above that. Add a few matching sequins for embellishing, and the card is completed.

I am submitting my card to Simon Says Stamp: Wednesday Challenge: A Hint of Pink

SSS - Wednesday Challenge

Hope you are inspired by my simple card, and decide to play along in the Little Tangles challenge. Remember to use at least one Neat & Tangled product. And most of all, have fun! πŸ™‚

#603 – Little Tangles April Challenge: Watercoloring

Hello! Time for the April challenge at Little Tangles. The theme this time is ‘Watercolor’.

2017-04 Badge

And here’s what I made for some DT inspiration –

Hello Friend

I chose to go with a card with different dimension. This one is 3 3/4″ by 7″. I wanted to try something with a long-ish card dimension for quite some time now, so I was pretty happy with this! πŸ™‚

Hello Friend

Now to the card – I first stamped the sentiment. Following this, I started with stamping a few of the flower centers and then watercoloring them, stamping a few more flowers/leaf centers, watercoloring some more..and so on. I also added more color to the already dried ones, wherever I felt it was needed. I only stamped and watercolored them in steps, since I wasn’t getting a sense of how much space would be needed to watercolro each flower/leaf, else I could have stamped them all, and watercolored them all at one go. πŸ™‚ Anyway, I used MFT Hybrid ink, which is waterproof, for stamping and Gansai Tambi watercolors for, of course, watercoloring.
