#1004 – Mixed Media card

Hello and welcome! Today I have the honor of being the Guest Designer for the wonderful Color Throwdown challenge!

Its a color challenge that helped me groom my coloring skills when I first started card making, and continues to do so today. The design team always have such wonderful inspirations with any pick of color! Speaking of which, this is the color combo for this time –

Beautiful set of colors! And this time I took up a personal challenge to make the card look like its made up of ATC elements. Here’s what I made –

I used a lot of older stamps and die cuts on this one – and that made me happy as well! I used Tim Holtz’s stamp set that I got as a part of Alcohol Inks kit, Ranger Entomology, Nature’s Elements, My Favorite Things Bold Diagonal Stripes in the background, and to make the butterfly piece look like an antique piece, used stamps from Ranger Entomology and CrafTangles Halftone Dots and a couple of washi tapes. The die cuts are Paper Smooches Flower 2 and Sizzix Flowers, Branches and Leaves. I doubt most of them have been available for a long time now! The sentiment, from Altenew Label Love is probably something that’s available.

I used distress inks and with the help of brayer and gel plate, made butterfly panel a bit more variegated. I also colored the top wings of the butterfly in green, though I doubt its that visible. Well, once all the pieces were done, I just arranged them adhered them together on the card base. The only dimension being behind that BnW diagonal background.

I’m glad this card came out so quickly, given that I had been taking very long to make my cards until recently. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity – I had a lot of fun with this new design style of card making!

#975 – Mixed Media card with Watercolored Poinsettia

Hello and welcome! First of the month and Watercolor challenge is up at the Happy Little Stampers challenge! As always, it is Anything Goes, so as long as you’ve used watercoloring on your project, you can join us!

And here’s what I made –

I started with the poinsettia. I first prepared two panels of watercolor papers, one using Distress Inks of shades of pink, the other with shades of green. I also used bits of Pumice Stone in both along with bits of silver and gold watercolors from Gansai Tambi Starry Colors. Once dry, I die them using Altenew 3D Poinsettia. I then adhered them together, with a couple of extra pieces to make the poinsettia a bit bigger. To the center, I did some heat embossing using chunky gold embossing powder, which gave it both the shine and some dimension.

For the background, I used Stamplorations Christmas Flower and heat embossed it on black cardstock using clear embossing powder. For the sentiment, I used the stamp and die set from Paper Trey Ink called ‘Grand Ampersand’. I didn’t have the right shade of red so, I used Candied Apply distress ink to color a white scrap cardstock, heat embossed the sentiment in white and die cut it. The ‘&’, I die cut 4 pieces, adhered them together for diemension, and then heat embossed using a mix of Ranger Mixed Media Powdered Bone and Stampendous chunky gold embossing powders. I then adhered the & directly and foam mounted the other two pieces below the poinsettia.

Finally, I used a piece of washi tape on the side, trimmed the black panel a bit and adhered it to a card base. And that finished my card! Lots of media used there! 🙂

#889 – Washi Tape Art Journal

Hello and welcome! I’ve made something Art Journal after such a long time! I’ve made a few mixed media pieces, a few draw & paint pieces in my art book.. but something like a art journal spread has been forever! I found instant inspiration after watching this video from Maremi’s Art and immediately created this –

I used multiple washi tapes, a few stamps and a die cut and distress inks for watercoloring a bit. The color has come a bit creamier in the pic than it is in irl. But I couldn’t modify the pic any more without losing the colors on it. Guess I’ll leave it to your imagination! 😀

#848 – Inspiration Station Challenge 07

Hello and welcome! Finally, after a long delay, we are up with the next edition of the Inspiration Station Challenge!

This time, it was my turn to choose the topic, and I chose two patterns; the challenge being getting inspired by one of them –

And here’s what I made for this challenge –

I wanted a penstand to store my new soft bristle brushes for crafting. This seemed like the opportune time to make it. 🙂 I used a packaging cardboard, which was already cylindrical, adhered a cardboard base, covered the while thing with kitchen paper, then white gesso.

I then added some texture paste via CrafTreat Arabic Pattern stencil. I then cut out some diecuts and got some moulds from MFT, Spellbinders and Prima to stick on. I also added a few art stones here and there. Finally, I colored it with some grey  and black acrylic paints and then used Prima wax for some shine.

My sister has created a mini book. That tiny thing is adorable and also so well made! I totally loved it!! Check it out here.

#828 – Inspiration Station challenge 05

Hello and welcome!! Finally posting the next edition of our Inspiration Station challenge! And we have brand new logo!! Hurrah!!

It was my turn to issue the challenge, and I’ve come up with another moodboard. And I must say, I went through hundreds of images in Pinterest before I came up with this!

Since I have been making cards for all the previous challenges, I thought of making some mixed media work this time. Came up with a pen stand – which I am actually going to use to hold my hair combs. 🙂

I used tissue for the inside and the outside, a cloth-lined envelope which I adhered inside out, then added black gesso, added the molds, then painted it with acrylic paints. Finally added the orange-red paint with Prima waxes, for a sort of a patina look.

The air dry clay I was using was almost dry, and so, it wasn’t easy to make the shapes. They were breaking even as I was taking them out of the mould! I, however, managed to keep the pieces together and paste them properly. It wouldn’t make much of a difference once everything was done! 🙂

But I must admit, it has been a pain to get the color right in the images. Somehow all the photos were showing a bright blue, whereas they are a mix of blue, peacock color and black. Even the highlights are a mix of copper, gold and red. It doesn’t look right even after I modified the images using Gimp! Sigh! My photography is a failure!!

But checkout what my sister has created! I think she has done more justice to the board than I. She has created a beautiful sheet of art! Totally love it!
