#1041 – STB: Wheels

Hello and welcome to a new challenge at Seize the Birthday challenge. Our hostess this time is Jules, who has chosen the topping of ‘Wheels‘. The topping, as always is optional and you’re free to join as long as your project is for a birthday.

And here’s what I made –

I went with a bit of a graphic design this time, being inspired by this card by Lisa Spangler. I used the cycle stamp from Lil Inker Designs Rustic Spring, the sun from Reverse Confetti Weather It Together and the cloud dies from Paper Smooches Kite die. The stamping in the background making the sky and the cycling path are from Neat & Tangled Landscape stamp. Finally the sentiment is from Bo Bunny Sentiments stamp set.

While I intended to not have two layers, once I finished stamping and adhering all the images, I found that there was more whitespace on the right side of the card. Instead of making the whole card once again, I just trimmed the right, top and bottom a bit and mounted it on a fresh white card base.

And that finished my card! Checkout more inspiration from the rest of the design team and our new Surprise Party Guest Bonnie Klass and Carol McFarland who was our overall winner using our Topping from our previous challenge at the Seize the Birthday challenge blog.

#1033 – STB: Card for a Child

Hello and welcome! It’s time for a new challenge at Seize the Birthday and this time, the Topping is chosen by Linda to be ‘Card for a Child‘. Of course, the topping is optional and you can choose to go without it and make any Birthday project to join the challenge.

And here’s what I made –

Using black cardstock might not seem too bright, maybe not the perfect color for a child, but I still went with it. I mean, why not have Unicorns and rainbows on a night sky, right? They still look fabulous, day or night!! 😀

On a black card stock panel, I stamped a unicorn from the MFT Friendly Unicorn stamp set using white pigment ink and used my Faber Castell Polychromos pencils to color it. I also colored the rainbow below it. I then splattered some stars using white pigment ink with some water and brush. I also added some meteorites above and painted some clouds below using the same pigment ink.

I then die cut the panel using Neat & Tangled Scalloped die and then tried to blend in some white pigment ink from the edges…which didn’t blend in very well. Hmmm. Nothing I can do at this point, so I left it as is. I then stamped the sentiment from the same set using white pigment ink as well. I then added this panel over a black card base. And that finished my card!

#1030 – Lots of Hearts

Hello and welcome! It’s the third Thursday of the month and we have a new challenge at Seize the Birthday. The optional topping this time is chosen by JoAnn to be ‘Red, White plus One color‘.

And here’s what I made –

I wanted to use the Whole Hearted Cover Plate from Neat & Tangled. It’s been in my stash for so long, but I don’t remember if I have every used it!! I thought this was the perfect opportunity! I wanted to die cut a red cardstock and have some other color underneath, but actually did the reverse in the end.

I started with a yupo paper panel, on which I used shades of red alcohol ink and came up with some random pattern. I then used a normal white cardstock panel, stamped the Hero Arts Graph stamp on it (it moved a bit when I stamped, but I thought it looked anyway), then die cut the stamped panel using the Whole Hearted Cover Plate. I then adhered this directly over the yupo panel, which I then adhered to the card base.

For the sentiment, I chose bright yellow ink, and few stamps combined from Winnie & Walter Sketchy Thoughts and Waffle Flower Monochrome and Congrats stamps. I then fussy cut them and then foam mounted them on the card.

And that’s my card! Step over to the Seize the Birthday blog to checkout what our Surprise Party Guest Stephanie Lanzalotto and the rest of the DT has created for JoAnn’s challenge!
