#1041 – STB: Wheels

Hello and welcome to a new challenge at Seize the Birthday challenge. Our hostess this time is Jules, who has chosen the topping of ‘Wheels‘. The topping, as always is optional and you’re free to join as long as your project is for a birthday.

And here’s what I made –

I went with a bit of a graphic design this time, being inspired by this card by Lisa Spangler. I used the cycle stamp from Lil Inker Designs Rustic Spring, the sun from Reverse Confetti Weather It Together and the cloud dies from Paper Smooches Kite die. The stamping in the background making the sky and the cycling path are from Neat & Tangled Landscape stamp. Finally the sentiment is from Bo Bunny Sentiments stamp set.

While I intended to not have two layers, once I finished stamping and adhering all the images, I found that there was more whitespace on the right side of the card. Instead of making the whole card once again, I just trimmed the right, top and bottom a bit and mounted it on a fresh white card base.

And that finished my card! Checkout more inspiration from the rest of the design team and our new Surprise Party Guest Bonnie Klass and Carol McFarland who was our overall winner using our Topping from our previous challenge at the Seize the Birthday challenge blog.

#1037 – Alcohol Ink Background

Hello and welcome to a new challenge at Seize the Birthday, where the Topping this time is chosen by Shirley to be ‘Alcohol‘. So you can use alcohol inks or alcohol drinks or both in your birthday project. But the topping is optional so you can always join us with any birthday project.

And this is what I made –

I had this alcohol ink on yupo in my stash, which I had made some time ago. I hadn’t liked all the browns in it then, but had set it aside. But it looked particularly good against this leaf die cut in white, so I decided to use it.

I backed the yupo paper with some grey cardstock since it was quite flimsy and then mounted it over a light grey cardstock. I trimmed the excess yupo paper off. I then cut out the leaf die cut from Dress My Craft Foliage & Leaves 5 die, adhered a few of them together for some dimension and stuck it on top of the yupo paper. The sentiment, from Reverse Confetti Simply Sentiments, I white heat embossed over the same dark grey cardstock, fussy cut it and then adhered it over the card with some pieces of scrap cardstock beneath to get some dimension. And that’s my finished card.

#1034 – STB: Things In A Garden

Hello and welcome! It’s time for a new challenge at Seize the Birthday and this time the Topping is chosen by Nancy to be ‘Things in a Garden‘. What she means is to use words beginning with your initials to be featured in your project. If the topping is not your thing, just make a birthday related project to join!

And here’s what I made –

I used the stamp sets from Waffle Flower called Enveloper Little Birdie and Enveloper Birthday. My initial idea was to do no line watercoloring, but my stamping didn’t come out right on the watercolor paper I had chosen. Instead, I switched up. I thought since the stamp is so detailed, including beautiful solid lines, I could just stamp them in a single color to make it stand out. I would have preferred a letterpress look, if I knew how to do it! 😀

So I chose Paper Trey Ink Rustic Cream cardstock and stamped the images with a reddish brown ink. The sentiment came from Reverse Confetti Simply Sentiments.

And that finished my card! Checkout what the rest of the team created mates and our Surprise Party Guest Hilary Wright and the winner of the last challenge have created at the Seize the Birthday challenge blog!

#1013 – STB: Follow a Sketch

PE: Featured Artist at As You See It challenge! Yay!!

As You See It - Featured Artist

Hello and welcome! Today we start a new challenge at Seize the Birthday!

Our host this time, JoAnn, has given us a sketch to work with as the topping . The Topping is an optional challenge, but as long as your project is birthday-related, it’s worthy of entry!

And here’s what I made –

I started with making those little stamp die cuts. To create my own pattern paper for die cutting, I just took a plain white cardstock panel, stamped images using normal inks, then used a little water with a brush to spread the ink a bit. Doing that would blur the image so I stamped each image a couple of times more to add the definition back. Of course, since I was using my MISTI, restamping was easier. I used images from Hero Arts Flower Garden and Kaisercraft Butterflies stamps. I then die cut the panel randomly to get the stamp die cuts. I think the die was a free gift from a Winnie & Walter purchase.

I also used the same technique to stamp the big butterfly, also from Kaisercraft Butterflies stamp. I also added some details using a black fine liner pen and fussy cut it.

I first adhered the stamp die cuts on a grey card stock strip, trimmed it to size and used another strip of grid washi tape behind it and adhered it on the white cardbase. For the sentiment, I used a stamp from Reverse Confetti Tall Blooms. I trimmed it and added a strip of rainbow colored foil washi tape behind it. After adhering this on the cardstock, I also adhered the butterfly on top.

And that’s the card! I’m joining the following challenges as well –
