#1064 – Flamingo Wishes

Hello and welcome to a new challenge at Seize the Birthday. As always we have an optional topping chosen by the leading lady of that challenge. This time, Shirley has chosen ‘Hot Pink and Lime‘ as the topping. Of course, if you’re not a toppings kinda person, you can just stick with our usual Anything Goes birthday. The choice is yours!

And here’s what I made –

I have to admit, the only idea I had in my head was to use flowers and leaves. I have a ton of stamps and dies anyway. But I wanted to use these colors with something else. I searched for hot pink and lime in Pinterest and saw some great ideas – watermelons, sweet summer drinks, geometric designs, cupcakes and flamingoes! I chose the flamingoes since I had the stamps in my stash, unused for quite a long time!

I used Reverse Confetti Think Pink and stamped the image on white cardstock and colored them using distress inks. But the colors came out a bit dull for my liking (the cardstock was sucking the colors!) and so I used Zig brush markers several times to color it over until it became bright enough. I then fussy cut the images and set them aside.

For the sentiment I used Winnie & Walter In A Word: Happy stamp and coordinating dies. I foam mounted all the images and the sentiments on white cardstock.

And that’s my card. Hop over to the Seize the Birthday challenge blog to checkout more inspiration from the rest of the DT and our guests.

#1060 – STB: Repetitive Die Cut

Hello and welcome! Time for a new challenge at Seize the Birthday and this time, our hostess Nancy is asking us to be ‘Repetitive Die Cut‘. Of course, as always, you’re also free to ignore this topping and go with ‘Anything Goes‘ birthday project.

And here’s my creation –

I started with the die cuts, of course. I used Spellbinders Nordic Blooms dies to die cut colored cardstock. I die cut a few extra pieces to adhere together to get some dimension. I then embossed a panel of dark wine colored cardstock using my old Elizabeth Crafts Flower Mosaic embossing folder and adhered it to the cardbase of same cardstock. I then adhered all my die cut pieces. Finally added some pink pearls for embellishing the flowers.

For the sentiment, I used die cuts of Altenew Inline Alpha. However, this wasn’t showing up against the bright die cuts, so I cut out a shadow for each of the letters and adhered them behind to give them some ground. The stamped part of the sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp Tiny Words.

And that’s my card. It was easy to make, but time consuming to die cut so many pieces! But enjoyable. I was particularly astonished by how gorgeous the embossing was looking on the darker colored cardstock as compared to white, which I usually use – wow, what a difference! Now I know how to use all my old EFs!! 😉

#1058 – Fall Colors

Hello! Welcome to a new edition of Seize the Birthday challenge where the challenge is to make a birthday project with an optional topping. Our hostess for this round, Linda, has chosen the topping to be ‘Use Fall Colors‘.

And here’s my creation –

This is a quick and easy card to make. I used Reverse Confetti Blooms n Buds stamp set (2016) and stamped them on my white card base using fall colors. After covering the whole panel, I added some dots using a black gel pen to cover up some wider white spaces.

Switching to the focal sentiment. I wanted the sentiment to be on blue cardstock resembling the one leaf image, but I didn’t have any in the same color. So I just picked some white cardstock scrap, used distress inks to sponge in the nearest color and then used Taylored Expressions Handlettered Sentiments to white heat emboss the sentiment. I then fussy cut the sentiment, added a couple of scrap cardstock pieces behind it before adhering it on the card. For the frame, I used We R Memory Keepers Nesting Circles, cut a few pieces and stacked them together and then adhered it on the card.

And that’s my card. I’ll also join the following challenges –

#1055 – A Musical Party!

Hello and welcome! We have a new challenge at Seize the Birthday, hosted by Jules this time. and she has chosen the Topping as ‘Make it Musical‘. Of course, the Topping is always optional, and it is always ‘Anything Goes‘ birthday challenge.

And here’s what I made –

I did some pencil coloring on kraft paper this time. I used images from Winnie & Walter Party On stamp set and then used Faber Castell Polychromos pencils to color them. I then adhered this over a scrap piece of kraft cardstock and then die cut it using Winnie & Walter Essentials: Lana Cutaways. I didn’t use the kraft cardstock directly for coloring since I get better results with the paper.

I adhered the panel over black cardbase. For the sentiment, I used the same stamp set, stamped it on black cardstock using white pigment ink, fussy cut it and then used a few pieces of scrap pieces of cardstock to add dimension before adhering it to the card.

And that’s my card! Hope over to the Seize the Birthday challenge blog and checkout more inspiration from the rest of the DT and our guests as well.

#1054 – Symmetry

Hello and welcome! Time for a new challenge at Seize the Birthday and the topping this time by JoAnn is ‘Make a Shaped Card‘. As always, if the topping is not to your liking, you can go with ‘Anything Goes‘ and make a birthday project of your liking.

Here’s what I made –

I love the look of those symmetrical dies – there are various designs and they look really fabulous! I tried to replicate the theme in this card, but, by using dies that are not actually released with this design.

To start with, I used scrap paper to trace out the oval die and then laid the flower and leaf dies to fill up one quarter of the oval and traced those as well. Once I set the design, I proceeded to use the actual dies to die cut cardstock. I used Spellbinders Elegant Twist Ovals to cut out the oval die. A piece of navy cardstock with the filler die to cut out the holes and two out of white cardstock to make the card.

For the rest of the dies, which are from Spellbinders Be Bold Blooms, I cut out two pieces for each piece required, adhering them to get a bit of dimension. I then adhered them over the card, leaving a gap in between for the sentiment. The sentiment itself is from Paper Trey Ink Good Times stamp set. I trimmed the edges of the sentiment strip to make a banner and then added a pink + gold foil washi tape beneath it for some flare.

And that’s my card. And I’m joining the following challenges as well –
