#824 – Inspiration Station Challenge 04

Hello and welcome! Today my and my sister are playing another round of Inspiration Station challenge. Its our 4th challenge, and you can checkout the previous ones here, here and here.

This time, my sister was the one to choose the theme. She chose ‘green‘, ‘stripes‘ and ‘polka dots‘. And here’s what I came up with –

Thanks - Inspiration Station Challenge 04

I had trouble coming up with something. When I make cards, I usually think of the focus and then think what I want surrounding it. But that wasn’t working this time, so I switched my thinking. I just made the backgrounds first, and then came up with the rest of the card. That made the process a little easier this time.

The background is made of two different components –
I made then polka dotted background by using Simon Says Stamp Seeing Spots stencil on brown cardstock, pounced Versamark sticky ink on top, then used Rose Gold embossing powder and heat embossed it.
For the stripy background, I used Winnie & Walter Scenery: Stripes to stamp many stripes of various shades of green ink.

I then trimmed die cut the striped background, right in the center with Memory Box Flutter Vine, cut the remaining piece diagonally, replaced the diecut negative with a fresh piece of white die cut and finally foam mounted it on the polka dotted one.

I also die cut another piece of Memory Box Flutter Vine and a few pieces of leaves from the Pinkfresh Studio Dainty Blossoms, painted them in shades of green. Once dry, I adhered them over the die cut. Finally came the sentiment – two pieces of die cuts from Simon Says Stamp Big Thanks dies and the stamped portion from Altenew Adore You stamp set.

Checkout what my sister has created for this challenge right here! Some beautiful textures, that I absolutely love (wish I could create something like that to use in my cards… or maybe I’ll just steal the ones she made for myself!! :P)

With this card, I am joining the following challenges –

#676 – Mixed Media Bangle Box

Hello! Couple of months ago, the mixed media bug bit me, and I started craving for some projects I could make. The need for a bangle box came because of this itch! 😀

I am still a total amateur in mixed media, but i am pretty happy with how this one turned out. I made this bangle box, completely from scratch. Since I wanted the box to be of a specific dimension, and I didn’t have any box of the desired size at hand, I used some cardboard pieces that come from packaging, to create the box.

I used tissue paper for the base – absolutely loved the texture it provides, and how easy it made the colors spread and blend! I also used stencil and acrylic paints for more texture and coloring.

The flowers are both store brought and handmade. I even used my sisters seed beads and scrap polymer clay pieces on this project! That strip of brown lace is something I have with me from such a long time ago – I had wanted to use it in some sewing project, but it has ended up here! 😀

Since I wanted the project to be as flat as possible, I didn’t use too many pieces that would give dimension. It’s now just perfect to store all my bangles, till the time comes to wear some of them! 🙂
