TGIF – Favorite

Hello! I just decided to make this card since it has been a while I combined embossing with coloring, and since I used my Zig brush pens.

The flowers are from Simon Says Stamp Sketch Ranunculus, which I white heat embossed on a watercolor base. I didn’t use much water here on this card. I mostly used the lighter colors to blend in my darker ones; but I had to use water on the Ranunculus themselves – after applying color, I used a brush to quickly move/blend the colors all around, then immediately removed the excess water using a tissue.

Its basically a one layered card, except the sentiment. The stamped portion comes from the same stamp set, and the die cuts come from Lawn Fawn Cole’s ABCs dies.

A2Z Scrapbooking Challenge Top 3!

Hello and a very happy new year to everyone! I now I am a day late.. I was out yesterday and didn’t have time to click the snaps and post it yesterday. Well, a day late is still ok, isn’t it? 😛

I am presenting here four cards that I made for my family this year. Its kinda become a tradition for me to make four cards during New Year and Diwali for the family, following a single theme of design/technique/both. (Check out the cards I made for 2017 and 2016 New Year’s)

And here are this year’s cards –

Happy New Year

After making a couple of vintage looking cards, I kinda started liking the look of them, and decided to make that the theme this year. Also, a big reason to make this true were the Prima watercolor pencils I got sometime last month. I had already owned a couple of sets of these pencils and absolutely loved them, and I ordered all the sets I could when they went on sale. I love the soft colors that these pencils give, which is just perfect for making vintage looking cards.

I chose a common design for making all the cards and the envelopes. I used outlined flower and leaf images from various companies, watercolored them using the Prima watercolor pencils. I used Canson watercolor paper. The sentiment on all of them is from the Mama Elephant Calli Letters and Calli Uppercase Letters stamped using Versamark Onyx Black ink. The envelopes are self made.

After trimming the watercolor panels and adhering them on grey cardstock, I added a couple of lines using silver Unibal Signo gel pen, to give the panel a sort of a frame. Since I wasn’t going for any additional embellishment, this would provide my cards a sort of ‘finished’ look.

Now lets go to the details of each card –

Happy New Year

I used Altenew Peony Bouquet and Altenew Beautiful Day stamp sets.

Many cards!

Hello! Another (and last) installment of my cards –

Painted FlowersFor this card, I started with stamping the flowers from Altenew Painted Flowers in Black Soot distress ink. For coloring the flowers, I used Hero Arts Neon inks Blue, Pink and Purple and MFT Abstract Art stamp set. After adding a few more leaves and buds, I also added a few black and grey dots around the flowers. I then added a few debossed lines. The sentiment is from Just Rite Vintage Labels #3. I used MFT Pinstripes and Black Soot distress ink for the background.

HelloI used the same Altenew Painted Flowers stamp set and Black Soot distress ink, but used Hero Arts Neon Blue, Memento Lulu Lavender and Olive Green distress ink for coloring. I also colored the buds with a q-tip and Memento Grape Jelly. I created the background using Memento Grape Jelly and MFT Pinstripes. I cut the sentiment using WPlus9 Hand Lettered Hello, colored it black. After adhering all the pieces, I added Glossy Accents on the sentiment and the flower centers and some sequins to finish the card.

Layering Attempts #3Mostly listing out the supplies here :). I stamped the background using Hero Arts Leaf & Floral Background and Memento New Sprout ink. I then colored a card stock with Hero Arts Tide Pool ink and used Spellbinders Delicate Doilies to die cut a doily. I then cut out three butterflies using Tattered Lace Butterflies; colored the first one using Victorian Velvet, Fired Brick, left the second one white and the third one using Fired Brick distress inks. I fussy cut out a pocket from K & Company pattern paper. the sentiment comes from The Craft’s Meow stamp set stamped in Black Soot distress ink.

One Layer + Stamping + Watercoloring

Hello! This is another stamp – which I’ve used – but not, probably, in the way it was intended to. Avery Elle Laurels – I’ve never made a laurel using this stamp set!!! High time I did, right? 😛

Avery Elle LaurelsI used only distress inks for stamping – Dusty Concord, Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Spun Sugar. Once I stamped, I quickly painted on them using some water. Once all the stamping and watercoloring was done, I spritzed some more water on the whole thing – I wanted a small quantity of color seeped out of the ‘proper’ images – not that visible, but still there. I felt this would give out a more ‘watercolor’y feeling…

Avery Elle LaurelsOnce the entire thing was dry, I stamped the sentiment from WPlus9 Fresh Cut Florals using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I then added little dots silver glitter in the flowers’ center. And that finished my simple card. 🙂

Watercolored Flowers – With A Twist

Hello! The card this time has a couple of twists. Its doesn’t look like it upfront, but for me the techniques used are a first. 🙂

Watercolored Flowers - With A TwistHere’s what I did – I first die cut the flowers using Flower Layers and Leaf dies from Sizzix. I then drew the flowers on the die cuts using my sketch pens. The sketch pens, by nature react to water and release the pigments – I made use of that for watercoloring.

The twist for me here is that I didn’t use any stamps, but instead relied on the shape of the dies for drawing the flowers! 🙂 The technique of watercoloring using the sketch pens too – although I knew about this technique from my childhood, its my first time successfully using in a card like this! Super happy! 😀 Along with curving the leaves, I also foam mounted some and directly adhered other flowers to achieve a look of dimension.

Watercolored Flowers - With A Twist (close up)Coming back to the rest of the card – I stamped the stripy background using Good Day Sunshine from We R Memory Keepers in Hero Arts Tide Pool. The sentiment, Hero Arts All Occasions Messages is stamped in Faber Castell green ink.

And that’s my card! How do you like it?

Celebratory Blossoms

Hello! Back with another card. I made it pretty simple this time – in fact I wanted to keep it one layered, but it felt like something was missing (;)), so I ended up with a two-layered one.

Congrats!I first stamped the background using Burlap from Just Rite and Hero Arts Butter Bar, after erasing most of the ink on a sheet, to get a very light image.

I then stamped the flowers and leaves from Full Bloom from Micia using Soft Pool, Soft Cantaloupe and Butter Bar from Hero Arts, overlapping the images, in a triangle formation. Finally I stamped the sentiment from Big Bold You from Winnie & Walter in Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

Congrats! (close up)

Makes for a pretty pattern paper, don’t you think? 🙂
