#610 – Addicted to CAS – Guest Designer

Hello! I am really happy to day to be Guest Designing at the Addicted to CAS Challenge blog! Thank you so much for having me over! πŸ™‚

ATCAS - GUEST DESIGNER

The theme this time is “Grunge”.

ATCAS - code word grunge

Now, I am not someone who makes grunge cards, and the theme was pretty difficult for me.. but that’s what challenges are for – guest designing or not!! πŸ˜‰ After pondering on it for a while, I came up with this card –

Miss You

The stamp set Adore You from Altenew is just perfect for a variety of techniques – starting from just outlining in beautiful colors, or coloring.. so why not make some grunge?…I thought.. So I mixed it with My Favorite Things Abstract Art stamp set to make this card. Of course, I used MISTI for great and perfect stamping, since the flowers are cut outs, foam mounted on the base, mounted to give dimension.

Finally, the sentiment, black base with heat embossed sentiment, came from Mama Elephant In My Heart stamp set.

Miss You

#512 – Thanks

Hello!

First, some good news – I don’t usually put reports of my wins in challenges, but this one is a bit special. Virginia’s View Challenge is one of my favorite challenges – she just re-started the challenge after a break, and wow! There were so many submissions and so much of inspiration!! She announced the winners just yesterday, and I have my cards, not just in the Top 10, but also as an Honorable Mention – double the reasons to celebrate!!

So here’s my thanks to Virginia, the super lady – she’s an inspiration!!

Thanks

A very simple card to make – and I think if the pink is replaced by blue, it can even make a standard (at least color wise) masculine card! πŸ˜‰

Thanks

Supplies used:
Altenew Painted Poppies
Memento Tuxedo Black, PTI Sweet Blush, PTI Melon Berry, PTI Berry Sorbet, Memento Pear Tart and Crushed Olive distress ink
American Crafts Shimelle Woodgrain embossing folder
PTI Wet Paint

I made that silver paper myself by applying some silver acrylic paint on cardstock. Looks so beautiful, I love it!!

#511 – A (Almost) Flat Shaker Card

PE: Winner at Little Tangles!! Yay! Guess all that thinking paid off! πŸ˜›

Neat & Tangled - Winner (Top Tangle)

Hello! Coming back after another spell.. Been busy with things lately, and the couple of times I attempted card making didn’t bring out presentable results..and hence delayed my blog posts too.. I was finally able to create this pretty shaker card – after thinking and thinking about it for 3 days!

Sending Warm Wishes

I first made an ombre background using Victorian Velvet distress ink, PTI Melon Berry and PTI Sweet Blush. Once it dried, I stamped Neat & Tangled Tiny Triangles using Memento Brilliance Platinum Planet and die cut the panel using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles.

The flowers, from Neat & Tangled Paper Cut Flowers and part of the sentiment, from SSS Sending Happy Thoughts are silver heat embossed; the other part of the sentiment, from Hero Arts All Occasion Messages is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black.

Sending Warm Wishes

I wanted to make a flat shaker – the kind Jennifer McGuire has made quite a few times – and I wanted to use vellum. Now, that didn’t work, for various reasons, and I ended up with a clear one, Jule Ebersole style (not the card, just the shaker! :P)

I ended up making a shaker with some clear plastic sheet, folded and adhered at the back, choosing sequins that were flat, instead of cupped. And the card panel is directly adhered to the white card base. As flat as I could make it (since the sentiment is mounted on foam tape..)

#501 – CASEing Yoonsun Hur

PE: Spotted by My Favorite Things!!

My Favorite Things - Spotted

Honorable Mention at The Heart Desired Challenge!!

The Heart Desires - Honorable Mention

Its been quite some time since my last post! I actually made these cards a week ago, but am posting them only now….And as the title denotes, I am CASEing a couple of cards by the amazingly talented Yoonsun Hur!

Celebrate

My first card is a CASE of this card by Yoonsun. If you’ve seen my posts from beloew, you’ll know I love bold and bright colors – and Yoonsun’s card, where she combined this bold look with the muting kraft – just stunning!

For my card, I used flowers and leaves fromΒ  My Favorite Things Modern Blooms and a variety of inks, then using another flower center stamp, stamped the dots in black and grey. I also added the dotted lines using Winnie & Walter Scenery: Stripes. Finally came the sentiment – I used Lawn Fawn Cole’s ABCs dies for the sentiment.

Celebrate

Did I mention that I really loved the bright and bold look? πŸ˜€ Anyway, I did add a bit of embellishing using some gold and bronze sequins.

This card is made especially for My Favorite Things challenge, who are celebrating 10 years – what an awesome achievement!! πŸ˜€ The challenge isΒ 10th Birthday Celebration Bonus Challenge, where we are to include 10 in some way in our creations. In my card, I’ve used 10 stamped elements (including flowers and leaves) and the sentiment carries 10 letters too! πŸ˜›

I am also submitting the card to the following challenges –

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: Flora & Fauna

SSS - Monday Challenge

The Heart Desires Challenge #2 (I’ve borrowed a few colors from the theme, and the flowers look quite tropical!)

For my second card, I was inspired by this card of Yoonsun. Now, I really love watercoloring – and watercolor backgrounds are just awesome – more so when done my a coloring genius like Yoonsun.. but I degress..

You Are My Person

The only mistake I made in this card’s watercoloring – I chose the wrong watercoloring medium – I used watercolor cakes – I should have used inks.. but anyway, the end result is not so bad… and the lesson is learnt! πŸ˜€

So, for this card, I used mostly solid or thick-outlined stamps from Neat & Tangled Paper Cut Flowers and Ellen Hutson Bold Blooms and used Zing white embossing powder. Unfortunately, I did somehow end up smudge up the embossing, even after embossing twice, to avoid the exact thing! Talk about ironic! πŸ˜€

The sentiment, from Ellen Hutson Mondo Magnolia is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black. Finally the card is embellished using some silver sequins (which are looking black in the image).

I am submitting this card to Ellen Hutson Mix It Up Challenge: Neat & Tangled and Seven Hills Crafts July Challenge: Color Challenge –

#483 – Cupcake Inspirations Challenge Surprise Sweetie!!

PE: Showstopper at Curtain Call Challenge!!! (Can you believe it!?!)

Curtain Call - Honorable Mention

The Hear Desires Honorable Mention!!! Yippie!!! πŸ˜€

The Heart Desires - Honorable Mention

Hello!!

I had won the Cupcake Inspirations challenge in May with this card, winning the honor of being a Sweet Six. Imagine my surprise when Naki mailed me asking to be the Surprise Sweetie!! I re-read the mail a couple times – I thought she had mailed me by mistake or something! πŸ˜‰

So, there was no way I would say no – and then, when she sent me the theme for the Challenge 363 – “Under the Sea”

Cupcake Inspirations Challenge 363

Ah.. I got a little tensed. See, I am no good when it comes to sea and fish. I right out avoid challenges with sea theme, beach theme, fish theme – you name it. I have nothing against them, mind you, in fact I love the sea and beach – I spent most of my childhood summer holidays near a beach and the smell of sea in the air is one of my favorites! But when it comes to making a card with the them …. errr… no, not my favorite! I didn’t want to miss the chance to be a part of CIC, but this was going to become a nightmare soon.. And that’s when Naki calmed me down.. she asked me to just have fun..and even gave me ideas – use the colors that remind you of the sea, or bubbles, waves, sea creatures, etc.. Yup, that got a couple of ideas in my head! πŸ™‚ And this is what I came up with –

Sea Life

I decided to put my acrylic paints to good use. I first gessoed a watercolor panel then added colors of the ocean, similar to the inspiration picture. Well, I would have stopped right there, if I could – the colors were looking really delicious! πŸ˜€ I then proceeded, albeit taking the risk of finally trashing it, to add a few plant life – I painted sea plants (or maybe leaves?) and some corals (do they even look like corals??) and left he panel aside to dry.

Sea Life

Next, I wanted to add a few fish too. The problem – I don’t own any stamps dedicated to sea theme – I could have hand drawn them, easy, but I thought of searching my stash first. I am glad I did – these fish are from My Favorite Things Cat-itude stamp set – you never would have guessed! :DI stamped the fish using MFT Hybrid black ink, and colored then using distress ink before fuzzy cutting them out.

Once the painted panel was dry, I trimmed it, layered it with a panel of pattern paper from K & Company – I felt that the colors were reminding of sand and beach – and adhered both the pieced to the card base double sided tape. I then added the fish, giving them a little dimension and the sentiment panel, where the sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp One With Nature, stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black.

Sea Life

Once done, I added quite a bit of glitter to the fish using Wink of Stella clear glitter pen, and some Ranger Glossy Accents. I also added the bubbles in white acrylic paint. And that’s my card! I am pretty happy with how it turned out, considering I had no idea what to do when I started! πŸ˜€

Submitting this to Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge – Sail On and The Heart Desires Challenge #1 (thank you Cris for reminding me of this challenge!) (and it makes me so happy to participate in the first challenge!! :D) –

A big thanks to Naki – for the chance to be the Surprise Sweetie and giving me the encouragement to make this card – I really had fun making it! πŸ™‚

Do stop over at the Cupcake Inspiration Challenge – I’ll bet you will be totally inspired to make something “under the sea”! πŸ™‚
