#788 – Distress Oxide Inks on Kraft

Hello and welcome!

I have this set of dark kraft cardstock. The quality is good, but because it is so dark, I am unsure of how to put it to good use (other than as a cardbase). I thought of using some Distress Oxide Inks on them, since, having pigment property, they would show up better than other options.

DOX on Kraft + Turnabout Stencil

I wanted the background to be in focus, and I used one of my latest additions to my stash – Concord & 9th Retro Petals Turnabout stencil. This is so much fun! I had tried it on a couple of other colors of cardstock, which I haven’t used on any cards yet, but the Distress Oxide Inks showed up very well on the dark kraft, using this stencil. For the centers, I used clear embossing and silver pearl embossing. Just look at that shine! 🙂

Once done, I was again lost – what do I do with it?! In the end, I decided to just go with a simple card, with only the addition of a sentiment. I used Concord & 9th Cuddles & Hugs die cut, stacking the part with the kraft die cut, and adding glossy accents for the top most thinnest layer. I also added glossy accents to the hearts.

And the color palette that I used –

#786 -Background Making with Small Stamps

Hello and welcome!

I remember making backgrounds using small stamps quite some time ago. I haven’t attempted it quite some time now, so I thought of trying it again. Also, I wanted to make something with Concord & 9th Painted Thank You stamp. I love the font of the sentiment it carries, but I didn’t know what to accompany it with. I thought of making the background using the small images that the stamp comes with… but again, I felt that there weren’t enough images.

Fortunately, I remembered another stamp set, with similar small images – Simon Says Stamp Nutty Over You. I picked a few stamps from this set, which looked like they would be a good combination with the Concord & 9th stamps, to create the background.

Thank You

The colors I chose are from this palette –

Stamping the entire background took me around half an hour. For the sentiment, I initially wanted to use vellum with silver embossed sentiment, but that wasn’t looking so good. So I chose to stamp using a dark grey ink, fussy cut it and foam mounted it. The stamped background itself is also mounted on grey card base. It looks a bit better now, I think. 🙂

Thank You

Even embellishing – I tried to add pearls or sequins, but in the end, I ended up using nothing at all. I let the background do that talking this time! 🙂

#755 – Going CAS

PE: Honorable Mention at The Card Concept!!

The Card Concept - Honorable Mention

Winner at Where Creativity Meets C9 challenge!!

Hello! I tried making something other than a DT card or a card for the family or to send to someone after a long time.. And somehow, I ended up making CAS cards – these are difficult for me to make, but, I ended up pretty refreshed! 🙂

The first is a floral card –

Thinking of You

I made this card by heat embossing the flower cluster from Concord & 9th Hello Lovely stamp in white. In fact, I stamped the image twice, but misaligned a bit the second time, which is making the lines appear so thick. Anyway, I colored them using Zig brush pens, then fussy cut them. The sentiment comes from WPlus9 Fresh Cut Flowers. I have adhered both the florals and the sentiment using foam tape for some dimension.

The second card carries some cute lions –

Happy Birthday

Those cute lions are from Reverse Confetti Leapin Lions stamp. I stamped them using Versafine black ink and colored them using Zig brush pens. I also die cut the grass using MFT Fresh Cut Grass die, 3 pieces, for varying shades of green. The foremost layer contains the sentiment, a combination of sentiments from Reverse Confetti stamp sets – A Whole Lotta Happy and Love & Ice Cream. I then mounted all the pieces using foam tape.

#723 – Guest Designing at WCMC9

Hello! I am beyond excited and so very elated to be guest designing at Where Creativity Meets C9!! What’s more, the theme this time is one of my favorites – if I wasn’t the GD, I would definitely have played multiple times!! The theme is ‘Watercoloring’

And here’s what I created –

Just a Little Note

Its a quick card to make. I stamped the flower cluster image from Hello Lovely in MFT Hybrid ink, then proceeded with messy watercoloring using distress inks. I chose a pink-green-gray combo. Once it dried, I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set. Makes this a clean one layer card!

#714 – Monochromatic CAS

Hello and welcome! I made this really simple and easy card, sort of in a hurry. I’ve been trying to come up with something for some time now, but wsan’t happy with most of the ideas, finally settled with this –

Have a beautiful day

I first stamped a panel with grey inks using the feathers from Hero Arts Feathers stamp set. I then die cut it using Spellbinders Deckled Rectangles, mounted it on a white card base. The leaves are from Concord 7 9th Layering Leaves and the sentiment is from Ellen Hutson Mondo Magnolia.

So, I just wanted to do some coloring, and it ended up as this card! 😀 And as to why I wanted to color – I had just got a set of Prima watercoloring pencils, and I couldn’t wait to use them in something! 😀 Some flowers seemed to be the right choice! 😉

Thinking of You

I used Concord & 9th Hello Lovely stamp on watercolor paper. After stamping it using a light grey ink, I started coloring on it using the Prima watercolor pencils. Once done, I trimmed it and stamped the sentiment from Simon Says Stamp Summer Garden stamp set, in a dark grey.

Thinking of You

I really did like these pencils. They give off a soft look as compared to my Gansai Tambi watercolors. So, these will be the colors I’ll reach for whenever I want a softer piece.

#684 – Brushstrokes with DOX Inks

Hello! I am getting addicted to DOX inks and coloring with pencils.. that’s what I’ve been using these past few days while making cards. (All of them won’t be posted soon, since some are DT projects.. the others too, I’ll have to wait until I snap some good photos 🙂 )

I thought of joining the Where Creativity Meets C9 challenge, where they’ve asked us to use the shades of the Concord & 9th banner. And such a cool looking banner it is! I love the cool blues and the brush stroke look, and decided to make my card as such. Of course, the beautiful sentiment in white is not to be ignored!

Thank You

I used the brushstroke stamp from Concord & 9th Painted Thanks stamp set with distress oxide inks. I stamped it with some 3-4 different blues, then applied water using a brush, stroking it in the vertical direction. Now, the images weren’t blending that well, but I didn’t worry. At places, I forced it to blend by using the brush, at places I left it alone. I also added a little more of the lighter colors by smooching the colors. I then left it to dry.

Thank You

Once dry, I added the sentiment and the flowers and leaves, from the same stamp set. I have heat embossed these in white; the sentiment has an extra layer of clear glitter – subtle enough to not show up in the photos (not like I didn’t try to capture it.. but you know how it is.. sparkle and photos just don’t go together! ;)) Finally added a few tiny pearls for embellishing.
