#1135 – Die cutting with Pearl Metallic Cardstock

Hello and welcome! We have a new challenge up at Addicted to Stamps & More and we’ve rotated to the next theme of ‘Diecuts and/or Stencils‘.

Addicted to Stamps - Die Cuts Stencils Badge

And here’s what I made –

I started with die cutting a couple of pearl metallic cardstocks, one a darker gold and one a lighter gold using Altenew Doodled Lace. I cut out the flowers from the lighter die cut to layer them above the darker die cut. For the card base, I chose a Sea Green cardstock and adhered the die cuts directly on top.

For the sentiment, I used Winnie & Walter Sentimental: Birthday. I used a sentiment and gold heat embossed it and fussy cut it. I then foam mounted it on the card. I also added a mix of sequins and off-white pearls on a few of the flowers. And that finished my quick and easy card!

#1065 -Dreaming a Sweet Birthday

Hello and welcome! We’re having a new challenge over at Seize the Birthday and this time, the optional Topping chosen by our leading lady Vicki is to ‘Add a Sky‘. Of course, as always, the Anything Goes topping is still applicable.

And here’s what I made –

I used My Favorite Things Sky High Friends to stamp over watercolor paper using Antique Linen distress ink and watercolored using more distress inks. For the background I used rougher watercolor paper and added a wash using Gansai Tambi watercolor, then splattered it with water to make it a starry night sky.

I first adhered the watercolor wash background over black cardstock. Once everything was dry, I fussy cut the images and foam mounted them over the card. I also directly adhered the watercolored and fussy cut stars over the background watercolor paper. Before fuzzy cutting, however, to avoid having any white showing up, I colored the white spaces using the same blue that I used for the night sky.

For the sentiment, I used Simon Says Stamp Magical Birthday and Winnie & Walter Sentimental: Birthday stamp sets and white heat embossed the sentiments over black cardstock and foam mounted it on my card.

And that’s my card. Checkout the Seize the Birthday challenge blog for more inspiration from our talented DT and from our guests.

#1046 – Mixed Media Number Crunching

Hello and welcome! Today begins a new challenge at Seize the Birthday and this time, the topping is chosen by Cathy to be ‘Number Crunching‘ – which is nothing but to use a number in the project you create. As always the topping is optional and you can choose to go without it to make a birthday project of your choice.

I went the mixed media route this time and here’s what I made –

I started with the background. I used Tim Holtz‘s stencils Countdown and Dot Fade to add some grit paste on watercolor paper. Once dry, I watercolored some light blue tones of distress ink on, and once that was dry, also added some splatters. I also stamped some fonts using Cloud9 Border Patterns stamp.

For the focus, I die cut feathers using Spellbinders Feathers dies from matt dark and light silver cardstocks. I also added two different washi tapes to strips of spare cardstock and cut them out. I then stapled the feathers to the washi tape strip and foam mounted them on the card. For the sentiment, I used Winnie & Walter Sentimental: Birthday stamp. I white heat embossed it on black cardstock, fussy cut it and foam mounted it on the card.

And that’s my card! Hope you are inspired by it! I’m joining these challenges –
