#1134 – Rainbow of Colors

Hello and welcome! Time for a new challenge at Seize the Birthday and this time, our leading lady Cathy has chosen the topping as ‘Rainbow of Colors‘ for us. However, if you are not a toppings kind of crafter, just make sure that your entry is a Birthday theme.

And here’s what I made –

I was inpired by Laura Bassen‘s card making style – who makes rainbow colored cards better than her?!

I started with the background. After brushing in a soft layer of rainbow colors using distress inks, I laid out the Neat & Tangled Geometric Blooms stencil on top and used the same set of inks to deepen the colors. I then splattered some water on top and picked up the ink using a clean cloth for additional texture and set it aside to dry.

For the sentiment, I used CraftAdda Large Happy Birthday die. I used it on white cardstock scraps and matte gold foild cardstock and adhered the pieces with the gold matte on top. I then adhered this piece over a sheet of vellum and then fussy cut the piece.

Before assembling the card, I rounded the opposite corners of the white card base and the rainbow stencilled panel and adhered them together. I then adhered the sentiment and then added some sequins for adding to the fetive feel. I also added a small ‘cheers!’ from Simon Says Stamp Tiny Words: Birthday, stamped in black over white cardstock, trimmed to size.

And that’s my card! And I’m joining these challenges as well –

#1124 – CAS is Difficult!

PE: Top 3 at Neglected Stuff challenge!

Neglected Stuff Challenge Top 3

Hello and welcome! It’s time for yet another challenge at Seize the Birthday and this time, our leader, Nancy, is the leading lady, and she chose the topping ‘Clean and Simple with a Stencil‘. Of course, our ‘Anything Goes‘ topping always applies, so if the topping is not to your liking, you can just join with a Birthday project.

And here’s what I made –

I started with the stencilling. I picked a linen textured white cardstock, and used the Stamplotations Art Flowers 1 stencil , masking it with sticky notes to blend in the colors. Once done, I used Simon Says Stamp Stitching Panel on the panel. Yeah, I had a hard time getting rid of all the teeny tiny die cut pieces (the best tip I learnt from Jennifer McGuire to remove such small things was to run a tooth pick or something similar over the die cutting, like drawing a line. While it does make it tons easier, it is still time consuming to run it over a large surface), so I left a few behind here and there.. makes it a little artistic too! 😉

For the card base, I had initially chosen a purple cardstock, but later switched to white, since it was looking much better. I adhered my stencilled panel directly on it, and cut out a strip of a matching purple cardstock and adhered it right next to it. Once the whole thing dried, I trimmed off the overhanging edges.

For the sentiment, I used Simon Says Stamp Butterfly Blossoms, stamping it over a white cardstock die cut using Sizzix Phrases die. I then adhered this over my card.

Arrgh.. it was so difficult to stop myself from adding a sequin or something to embellish my card!! I soooo wanted to add something. This card is really proof of my willpower – I can’t go any more CAS than this! My apologies to Nancy!! 😀

But I can still join a few challenges –

The Neglected Stuff challenge September: Anything Goes – the stencil I used, Stamplotations Art Flowers 1 stencil, I’ve had it in my stash for so long – probably more than 3-4 years – and never used it!!
