#1108 – A Very CAS Card for Me!

Hello and welcome! It’s time for another challenge at Seize the Birthday and this time the topping is chosen by our leading lady Jules to be ‘No Stamping‘. Of course, Seize the Birthday always has the ‘Anything Goes‘ option open as well, as long as your project is birthday-related, feel free to join the party!

And here’s what I created –

I knew I wanted to use that dragonfly! I had recently bought Simon Says Stamp Whirl Dragonfly and I had reserved it just for this challenge. I paired it with Spellbinders Fresh Picked Anemones.

Starting with the dragonfly, I cut it out from a couple of pieces of dark brown cardstock and also some vellum. I added some light coloring on the vellum using Zig brush marker pens and used the blender to lighten, spread and mix the colors. I then sandwiched the vellum wings in between the two pieces of the dragonfly’s body, so the whole thing is a little stable for me to adhere.

For the flower, I used Simon Says Stamp Whirl Dragonfly with different colors of cardstock and then used Zig brush marker pens to lightly color some areas. I cut out an extra piece for the stem – it was so wobbly – and then adhered all the pieces together.

For the sentiment, I used the same dark brown cardstock that I used on the dragonfly and used Die-versions Celebrate die, cutting out a couple of pieces, which I stacked together. I then adhered all the pieces together to make what must be the CAS-est card of my life! Not a single embellishment and nothing else to adorn this one – I thought it was looking pretty smart even without anything! 😀

And that finishes my card. I’m joining the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge which has the topic ‘Anything Goes’ –

#1097 – Retro Celebrations

Hello and welcome! Time for a new challenge at Seize the Birthday and this time, our hostess Nancy is asking us to ‘Use the word Celebrate‘. Of course, as always, you’re also free to ignore this topping and go with ‘Anything Goes‘ birthday project.

And here’s what I made –

I wanted to use this stamp from the Simon Says Stamp Retro Wishes from such a long time. I had tried using it for a previous challenge, but hadn’t liked the results, and so I had dropped the idea then. But this time, since I was free to choose the colors, I just picked a few that looked like they would do good together, in light and darker shades. I stamped them using MISTI – which was a life saver for this design!! – and then trimmed the resulting piece to size. I didn’t want to do much for the rest of the card, since I wanted this background to be the highlight. But I did want some decoration.

I chose to add washi foil tape to the sentiment instead. I first added a foil designer washi tape (same idea I used on a previous card here), adhered it over a scrap piece of white cardstock, then die cut this using Neat & Tangled Celebrate die cut. I also die cut a couple more pieces out of scrap cardstock to adhere behind this one and used the shadow die to die cut from vellum. Again, before adhering the panel to the card base, I felt that the white space was too white. So I used Simon Says Stamp Ornate Background with gold pigment ink, stamped it on the white base. This was a very subtle gold ink, so that just added the tiny bit of texture and interest to the background.

Finally, I added the background and sentiment to the card base. I also chose to add a couple of white gemstones on two corners of the panel, just to add a sort of frame to it. And that finished my card. 🙂

#1087 – White and Gold!

Hello and welcome to a new challenge at Seize the Birthday. As always we have an optional topping chosen by the leading lady of that challenge. This time it’s my turn and I have chosen ‘Metallics‘ as the topping. Of course, if you’re not a toppings kinda person, you can just stick with our usual Anything Goes birthday. The choice is yours!

And here’s what I made –

I have some pretty Gold Matt paper in my stash and I decided to all out! 🙂

I first die cut Neat & Tangled Star Cover Plate, cut off the outer frame and set it aside. I then die cut Simon Says Stamp Flower Cluster from the paper. I wanted this one to have white solids in the base, so that I could color it. So I die cut another scrap piece of white cardstock, adhered it over a clean white cardbase, trimmed all the pieces sticking out and then lightly colored it using Zig brush markers with shades of pink and then green. I then adhered the gold die cut piece on top.

I also die cut a couple of butterflies from My Favorite Things Hip Clips dies. I think I’ve used the butterflies on this die set more than I’ve used the clips!! 😀

For the sentiment, I first die cut a piece of vellum using a die from Altenew Ornate Nesting dies. I then stamped some script on it using gold pigment ink, let it dry and then adhered the sentiment on it. I used Die-versions Celebrate die to cut out the matte gold and scrap papers and then adhered them together.

Finally, on the white card base, I splattered some drops of gold metallic watercolor. I adhered all the pieces together after everything was dry and ready. And that’s my card. Hop over to the Seize the Birthday challenge blog to checkout more inspiration from the rest of the DT and our guests.

#1082 – STB: Spring Flowers

Hello and welcome! It’s time for another Seize the Birthday challenge! Our leading lady Linda and she has chosen the topping of ‘Spring Floral‘. Of course, the topping is optional, and you can just make any birthday themed project and join us.

And here’s what I made –

I used the floral die from Pink Fresh Studio called Floral Squares, then used distress inks to watercolor them. This is cardstock with a smooth surface, so naturally some texture was created while watercoloring. I also added some shimmer using clear Wink of Stella. I also added a couple of extra layers of die cuts behind the top layer for some stability.

For the sentiment, I used Neat & Tangled Celebrate die. For cardstock, I used photo paper, which I colored using black marker. I also adhered a couple of extra layers behind for dimension. The stamped part is from Simon Says Stamp Tiny Words Birthday, which I stamped on scrap cardstock and trimmed and foam mounted. I added a few clear sequins for some embellishment.

And that’s my card! I’m also joining the following challenges –
