#1081 – STB: Coordinating Tag and Card Combo

Hello and welcome! Time for a new challenge at Seize the Birthday and this time, our hostess Jules is asking us to use ‘Coordinating Tag and Card Combo‘. Of course, as always, you’re also free to ignore this topping and go with ‘Anything Goes‘ birthday project.

And here’s what I made –

I used Waffle Flower Bear and Bird stamp set on both the tag and the card, making slight changes in the focal image, sentiment and the background color. The rest remain the same.

I started with the images, of course. I stamped the images from Waffle Flower Bear and Bird in Vintage Linen distress ink on Canson Montval paper and then over that I used Daniel Smith watercolors to paint. Once the main elements dried, I colored over the background, and once that dried, I added some splatters on. Finally, I stamped the sentiments using distress inks misted with a water spray.

For the card, I die cut the watercolor paper panel using a die from My Favorite Things Blueprints 27 and then adhered it over a soft grey cardstock. For the tag, I decided the same grey would not work since the peach-pink background brought in a warm tone. Instead I used a kraft cardstock for the base and attached a length of jute string on it.

And that’s my card+tag combo! Hop over to the Seize the Birthday blog to see more inspiration from our design team and our party guests!

Thank you so much for stopping by! 🙂

#1055 – A Musical Party!

Hello and welcome! We have a new challenge at Seize the Birthday, hosted by Jules this time. and she has chosen the Topping as ‘Make it Musical‘. Of course, the Topping is always optional, and it is always ‘Anything Goes‘ birthday challenge.

And here’s what I made –

I did some pencil coloring on kraft paper this time. I used images from Winnie & Walter Party On stamp set and then used Faber Castell Polychromos pencils to color them. I then adhered this over a scrap piece of kraft cardstock and then die cut it using Winnie & Walter Essentials: Lana Cutaways. I didn’t use the kraft cardstock directly for coloring since I get better results with the paper.

I adhered the panel over black cardbase. For the sentiment, I used the same stamp set, stamped it on black cardstock using white pigment ink, fussy cut it and then used a few pieces of scrap pieces of cardstock to add dimension before adhering it to the card.

And that’s my card! Hope over to the Seize the Birthday challenge blog and checkout more inspiration from the rest of the DT and our guests as well.

Thank you so much for stopping by! 🙂

#818 – Inspiration Station Challenge 03

Hello and welcome to the third Inspiration Station challenge!! This challenge is something my sister and I started, for us to have just another reason to get inspired and create, without the pressure of deadlines or rules. You can check out the what I created for the first and second Inspiration Challenge, if you like!

This time, I chose something from the products of the store Seedlings Cards, which I came across from Paper Crave‘s website. There are plenty of fantastic whimsical card designs on the website, but my sister chose this panel of cards, from which I extracted the color combo.

I was completely inspired by the colors. I actually wanted to create something whimsical, but in the end, I gave up since I wanted to use this new stamp set I bought – MFT Gill Friends. I didn’t have any fish/sea themed stamps with me until now, and I couldn’t wait to try this!! So, I went with the look of the bottom right card featured in the picture. Sea and fishies..

I started with the background. Tried out the technique taught by Jennifer McGuire in this post. Adding plenty of watercolors from my Gansai Tambi set, I used some scrunched up plastic cling wrap on it, left it to dry before removing the cling to get this amazing texture.

For the fish and the underwater plants, I used the same method – I first heat embossed it using white embossing powder, then colored the pieces by blending in distress inks. I then fussy cut the images.

Combining everything – I trimmed the watercolor background, foam mounted it on a white card base. I adhered the water plants directly, but foam mounted the fishies and also the sentiment.

Hope you liked what I created! Hop on to this link to see what my sister has created – its a fantastic mixed media creation that was made specially for our dear mom!! Am I next on the list, sis?? ;P

#684 – Brushstrokes with DOX Inks

Hello! I am getting addicted to DOX inks and coloring with pencils.. that’s what I’ve been using these past few days while making cards. (All of them won’t be posted soon, since some are DT projects.. the others too, I’ll have to wait until I snap some good photos 🙂 )

I thought of joining the Where Creativity Meets C9 challenge, where they’ve asked us to use the shades of the Concord & 9th banner. And such a cool looking banner it is! I love the cool blues and the brush stroke look, and decided to make my card as such. Of course, the beautiful sentiment in white is not to be ignored!

2017-10-28(1a)

I used the brushstroke stamp from Concord & 9th Painted Thanks stamp set with distress oxide inks. I stamped it with some 3-4 different blues, then applied water using a brush, stroking it in the vertical direction. Now, the images weren’t blending that well, but I didn’t worry. At places, I forced it to blend by using the brush, at places I left it alone. I also added a little more of the lighter colors by smooching the colors. I then left it to dry.

2017-10-28(1b)

Once dry, I added the sentiment and the flowers and leaves, from the same stamp set. I have heat embossed these in white; the sentiment has an extra layer of clear glitter – subtle enough to not show up in the photos (not like I didn’t try to capture it.. but you know how it is.. sparkle and photos just don’t go together! ;)) Finally added a few tiny pearls for embellishing.

#682 – You Are Incredible

Hello! At times, I feel like bringing out a coloring medium.. and then I keep going with the same thing, until I suddenly realize that its all I’ve been using. Happened this time with my color pencils. I suddenly realized that it’s been some time since I took them out, and started some coloring with them. And then I just kept using them, and no other media for coloring.. and then it hit me that I wasn’t using anything else! It’s a cycle that never fails to repeat.. and I already know what’s on my list next – Zig colro brush pens.. yup, its been a while since I took them out! 😉

Anyway, I digress. This is what I made using my color pencils.. Also, it had been some time since I took out these old favorites of mine – Altenew Persian Motifs stamp set. And it made just the most beautiful combination! 🙂

2017-10-13(2a)

On some scrap cardstock, I stamped the flowers in a light kraft ink, then colored them using my Faber Castell Polychromos pencils. I then fussy cut them. On a card panel I stamped the a few more images using the same ink, and colored only a few ares with a light grey color. I also stamped the sentiment, from the same stamp set, using a dark brown ink. I trimmed this layer, and foam mounted it on the card bas and also foam mounted the fussy cut flowers.
