#603 – Little Tangles April Challenge: Watercoloring

Hello! Time for the April challenge at Little Tangles. The theme this time is ‘Watercolor’.

2017-04 Badge

And here’s what I made for some DT inspiration –

Hello Friend

I chose to go with a card with different dimension. This one is 3 3/4″ by 7″. I wanted to try something with a long-ish card dimension for quite some time now, so I was pretty happy with this! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello Friend

Now to the card – I first stamped the sentiment. Following this, I started with stamping a few of the flower centers and then watercoloring them, stamping a few more flowers/leaf centers, watercoloring some more..and so on. I also added more color to the already dried ones, wherever I felt it was needed. I only stamped and watercolored them in steps, since I wasn’t getting a sense of how much space would be needed to watercolro each flower/leaf, else I could have stamped them all, and watercolored them all at one go. ๐Ÿ™‚ Anyway, I used MFT Hybrid ink, which is waterproof, for stamping and Gansai Tambi watercolors for, of course, watercoloring.

PE: As You See It Featured Artist!! Yay! So happy, since I’ve played their challenge after so long!! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

As You See It - Featured Artist

Stampin’ Royalty Top Pick!!

Stampin' Royalty Winner

Hello! I’ve been away for quite some time – except for a few scheduled DT posts, I’ve been doing nothing! But not behind the scene.. I was busy making a few cards for my dear ones, who have birthdays and anniversary next month. And me, I had to make and re-make the cards a million times before I was happy… and that took a lot of time! ๐Ÿ˜€ And when I finally did make some cards I could post, I fell ill, couldn’t take any photos of my cards, and when I recovered, the challenges I had made them for were all over! Just my luck! But I am just posting them here, hoping they’ll be applicable for a few other challenges..

So Very Thankful

I made both my cards using Concord and 9th Lace Leaf stamp set. For my first card, I chose three shades of green. Stamped them using MISTI, then the messy background, spread it with a wet paintbrush. I then die cut the panel twice, a bigger rectangle and a smaller square. I then stamped the sentiment inside, then adhered these pieces on the card base, foam mounting the mid die cut. Finally, some Nuvo Crystal Drops Gloss White for embellishing to finish the card.

So Very Thankful

For my second card, I went with green, gold and black – so charming! ๐Ÿ™‚

So Very Thankful

The bottom most leaf was an experiment with FlitterGlu and foil, the second one, black ink on vellum, the third, gold embossing on vellum. To finish the card, I fussy cut the leaves and adhered them together using double sided tape, mounted the leaves and then the sentiment using foam tape. I then added some drops of Nuvo Crystal Drops Bright Gold, then added a gold line frame using Uniball Signo gold gel pen.

So Very Thankful

#555 – Thanks..with One Layer and Flowers

PE: Noticed by Neat & Tangled!!

Noticed by Neat and Tangled

So I finally got out of my black and gold cycle! I really love one layer cards, though I make very less of them…since I am not that good with them. But this one was easy to keep as a one layered, CAS card! Super easy! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank You

I used Neat and Tangled Paper Cut Flowers with Memento inks Grape Jelly, Danube Blue and Rhubarb Stalk. Since my inks were a bit dry, I used MISTI for stamping, otherwise, alignment is eye-balled. Once done, I added the dots using gel pens and sketch pens.

Thank You

#545 – One Stamp; One Design; Two Ways

Hello!

I tried making these two sets of cards, with the same stamp set, same design, with the only difference being the coloring –

Sending Love

The flowers and sentiment are from Altenew Beautiful lady stamp set, which I colored using Zig Brush Pens. I used Memento Tuxedo Black to stamp them. Normally I wouldn’t use this ink if I was watercoloring, but I did – since the coloring was less, there would be minimal contact with the pens and the black ink, and so, there wouldn’t be much leaking.

Sending Love

#529 – One Layers and Splatters

PE: Top 3 at Sovushka Slavia! Can’t believe it!!

Sovushka Slavia - Top 3

Winner at Stampin Royalty!!

Stampin' Royalty Winner

Hello! I’ve made a discovery (which every card maker out there might already know) – that is this – splatters add a wonderful accent for one layers, especially when you don’t want to add any extra embellishments – no sequins, no rhinestones, no nothing, just pure one layered card! And here’s proof –

I made these two cards today, and couldn’t wait till tomorrow, since I have challenge deadlines approaching I just had to share them… Also, they are a part ofย The Ultimate Challenge Blog Hop with Altenew!

Beautiful Day

My first card is made of only Altenew Beautiful Day stamp set – this is a new one in my stash, and I couldn’t wait to make a card!ย  I used the colors from ColorQ Challenge and stamped this one layer card –

Beautiful Day

…and added splatters…I think I am getting addicted to them after the last Virginia’s View Challenge.. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜› Oh, the colors I used are all distress inks – Frayed Burlap, Barn Door, Spiced Marmalade, Scattered Straw – except for the sentiment, for which I used Memento Tuxedo Black.

And here’s the second card –

Thanks

I used Altenew Golden Garden stamp set went monochrome – I used my Memento Tuxedo Black and Pear Tart inks, then added the splatters, of course! The sentiment comes from my new latest to my stash – Honey Bee Brush Grunge Alpha – which I stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black.

Thanks

#521 – Marbling with Nail Polish!

PE: Top 3 at Sovushka Slavia!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Sovushka Slavia - Top 3

Hello! So, I am trying something new today. I had tried marbling before, and with nail polish..and ended up with some terrible looking paper. I completely gave up the technique then. Its been more than a year, I think, and I am re-attempting it now. As such, it is still something new for me, having never successfully created any marbled paper..or indeed used it!

I used the same set of cheap nail polish I had bought (thank god they hadn’t dried yet!! ;)) and using a portion of the paper, I was able to create this card –

Spread Happiness

One more thing is the coloring. I had used a similar..should I say patter..before, where I color only one element in the card (in this card). I really love this technique in a card. And it seems balloons keep getting all the attention, seeing that I have colored only the balloons in both the cards.. ๐Ÿ˜›

Spread Happiness

Well, coming back to this card, I used We R Memory Keepers Quickutz Nesting Circles to die cut my marbled balloon, Mama Elephant Up & Away for the cute little foxie and the sentiment, which I stamped in MFT Hybrid Black ink. I also added a bit of Cracked Pistachio distress ink at the bottom of the panel and splattered some water, just for some additional color.

PE: A few things about marbling using nail polish –

  • The technique is exactly the same as using any other alcohol medium. Add a few drops in a tub with water and dip the card stock panel on top and remove it to get the marbled look..
  • …however, be careful when retrieving the panel. Nail polish isn’t at all like alcohol inks (if you are used to that). Once separated from water, it becomes extremely sticky. So be careful not to stick it to your hands
  • If the nail polish spreads outside your card panel, be careful when you pick it out. It forms strands, which are, of course, sticky. The first time I tried, a few strands stuck to the portion I had just marbled. <insert very very angry and very very frustrated emoticon here>
  • Last, but not the least, be careful how you dispose the leftover. Like I said (and I’ve not said it enough times) nail polish becomes sticky as soon as it looses contact with water. This means it can stick to the tub, your hands and even the sink if you are disposing it there. For cleaning up, you can, of course use a nail polish remover, or even any alcohol solution (I had paint thinner at home, so I used that)

#516 – A Step Garden…or Something Like It

PE: Winner at Waffle Flower Challenge!! (Can you believe it?!?)

Hello!

After trying and failing with a lot of ideas, I finally came up with this card. But even so, its not really what I had imagined. What I thought of was a card with something like a step garden – it would seem like there are flowers growing at different layers. I couldn’t exactly achieve this effect, but I still like how it has ended up, so I am going ahead with this card! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank You

I first created the different layers of the card by diecutting different panels using WPlus9 Scalloped Border die. I then stamped the outline flowers and leaves from Waffle Flower Leafy using Memento Tuxedo Black, and then the solid ones using Memento Dandelion, Mustard Seed DI, Tumbled Glass DI, Broken China DI, Memento Pear Tart and Memento Bamboo Leaves. I then blended in a little bit of Memento Pear Tart over the bottom of the visible portion of each layer, so that the layers were clearly distinguishable.

Thank You

Finally stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set, mounted all the layers using foam tape (so, this card has too much dimension, can’t be mailed ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ). I couldn’t think of anything for embellishing it, so I just added a few dots using a black pen.

And that’s my card. I am submitting it to the Waffle Flower August Challengeย  –
